The last post regarding Yoast and Google is 2 years old. Is Yoast better than Google?
Hello WA,
I downloaded the Yoast plug in and it informed me that the Google xml sitemap and Yoast are the same thing, so I was just wondering if one is better than the other, and if so, then i need to delete one.

YOAST is an SEO plugin.
Google is a search engine.
You use the plugin to get better rankings and visibility in the search engine(s)
I was looking in to this today as well. Perhaps she means the Yoast plug in compared to the all in one SEO plug in??
Do you have an opinion on which of those two is the go to?

The Google XML Sitemaps plugin might cause issues when used in conjunction with Yoast SEO.
Both Yoast SEO and Google XML Sitemaps can create XML sitemaps. Having two XML sitemaps is not beneficial for search engines and might slow down your site.
Toggle Yoast SEO's XML Sitemap
The All In One SEO Pack plugin might cause issues when used in conjunction with Yoast SEO.
Both Yoast SEO and All In One SEO Pack manage the SEO of your site. Running two SEO plugins at the same time is detrimental.
This is what is listed in my back office. Google or Yoast.

Choose only All in One SEO or Yoast, not both. If you have either one of these, then you don't need the Google XML sitemaps.
Your initial question above didn't say "Google XML sitemaps" but just "Google" so your answers below are misguided.
