The hardest thing about changing themes is choosing one
I decided it was time to change my theme. When I first started Wealthy Affiliate I picked any theme. I kept building my website according to the bootcamp steps and my site kept getting bigger and bigger. Finally, I realized I did not like the menu that the theme had and nothing could fix it because the type of menu was a theme feature.
The steps I did to change my theme:
- Backup my WordPress site by going to Dashboard, Tools, Export, All Content. Download Export File. The file was downloaded automatically to my computer for me to save in a safe place in case it didn’t work I could re-install it.
- Choose new Theme by going to Dashboard, Appearance, Themes, add new theme, activate theme.
- Check website in dashboard for any little changes that may want to make.
My website came out perfect and I realized the hardest thing about changing themes is choosing one.

Darleen, thanks for the info about backing up your website, I wasn't aware of how to do this. My issue with changing my theme is that I REALLY want a Chihuahua based theme and I can't find one! I know there are sites where you can purchase theme pages, but I've done a bunch of Google searches and I can't seem to find one that focuses specifically on Chihuahuas. Lots of dog-themed pages. I know there are pay services you can use to create your own, but I haven't tried them yet. I need to get on that soon.
You can make any of these themes offered at WA into a Chihuahua website. You just need a couple of photos of Chihuahua's to upload for banners, or backgrounds, etc. I just checked at Pixabay.com where they have copyright free photos and they have the cutest Chihuahua pictures for download. Just do a search and you will find a bunch to choose from.

Hello Dee
I could not agree more about how hard it is to choose a theme for one's website,
I think we are meant to just choose a random one in the beginning, build it out a bit, and then see where the pro's and con's are,
then choose a theme that will suit our needs at that time. I change 3 times and am extremely happy with the current one, Codium Grid.
Excellent blog, thanks for sharing.
All the best
Gary
Yes, I am on my second theme, Twenty Sixteen. I like it so far but not 100% sure I am keeping it yet. A lot better than my previous theme for sure.
