A Summer of Surprises: From Mouse Droppings to Car Troubles
This past summer was one for the books, filled with unexpected challenges that tested my patience and problem-solving skills. It all started when I noticed something unsettling on my kitchen counter—mouse droppings. The sight of those tiny black pellets sent a shiver down my spine. I immediately called pest control to address the issue, hoping to rid my home of these unwelcome guests.
The pest control team arrived promptly and confirmed my suspicions. They set traps and sealed potential entry points, assuring me that the problem would soon be under control. While dealing with a mouse infestation was stressful, I felt relieved knowing that professionals were handling it.
Just as I thought my troubles were over, my one-year-old 2024 Chevrolet Trax began having engine issues. The engine light would light up. I couldn’t believe it. How could a brand-new car start acting up after just one year? Frustrated and concerned, I took it to the dealership for a diagnosis.
The service technician’s findings left me flabbergasted. He explained that a mouse had chewed through some of the wiring, causing the engine problems. I was stunned. It never occurred to me that the same pesky rodents invading my kitchen could also wreak havoc on my car. Why would General Motors apply food-based protective covering for wires for their automobiles? The technician assured me that this was not an uncommon issue, as rodents are often attracted to the soy-based wiring used in many modern vehicles1. Guess this is one way for General Motors to save money and their bottom line but a headache and costly expense for consumers.
The repair process was tedious and costly, but I was grateful that the damage was fixable. The dealership replaced the chewed wires and suggested some preventive measures to avoid future incidents. They recommended parking the car in a garage, using rodent deterrent sprays, and regularly checking under the hood for signs of nesting2. Before I put the car in shop I did use cinnamon spray under the hood and under the tires as a rodent deterrent. It was making my car smell like cinnamon everywhere I go.
Reflecting on this summer, I realized how interconnected our lives are with the environment around us. The mouse problem in my kitchen and the subsequent car troubles were a stark reminder of the unexpected ways nature can impact our daily lives. It also highlighted the importance of being proactive in preventing such issues.
In the end, I learned valuable lessons about vigilance and preparedness. Whether it’s sealing gaps in the kitchen or taking preventive measures for my car, staying one step ahead can save a lot of hassle. This summer may have been challenging, but it also made me more resilient and resourceful.
