Telemarketers or AI
I would get calls that were not found or saved in my contacts. I would answer them just to hear a click at the end of the call. Once I hear an incoming call, I check to see if it is a known number or unknown number. I answer it still for I'm expecting an important call. Once I say hello, there is silence at the end of the call and the caller quickly hangs up without a word.
I don't want to point to any telemarketers here on WA but I'm asking a simple question: why do the callers hang up before they say a word. I wonder if they check to see if the phone is active or answered by a live person and then hang up? Do they check to see if it is a male or a female voice before they proceed with the call? I wonder if they look for a child's voice on the line to continue with the conversation. Or is it AI doing the work to record the voice on the line or record that the phone number is active and remove the number from the listing (whatever that is).
It is just interesting that there may be some calls that may be a part of suspicious activity, possibly even scams looking for a prospective victim to pull in with their charismatic personality to steal their personal information.
I can't block calls for I am expecting a call soon. I requested the DO NOT CALL service a few years back and I may have to request it again.
Another thought I have is I wonder what companies would do with AI when it comes to customer service when it comes to this kind of outreach. That's a topic for another blog.
Wishing y'all a peaceful night

we have a lot of these in groups then nothing for a time ...
my thoughts are that they dial a number of numbers and whoever picks up first is answered and the rest are dropped....
what i tend to do now is pick up the phone and don't say anything for a second or two hten say hello - this simulates an answerphone and normally i get cut off....
and your turn will come up in the next cycle ....
yes i suspect if your phone is answered then you are put on an 'active' list...
but with the use of voip phones now we have kept our old phone number ( saved everyone form having to update it) but the cold callers are referencing the old address- we have been removed from a load of databases after explaining it is the wrong address and can they send the rep 500 miles to give us a quote....
Hello Cydney,
I have noticed this same activity and have come up with some of the same thoughts. My thinking a few years ago was to eliminate robo calls, but now I wonder. You bring up some good points.
You never really know without the proper research.
Blessing of success, peace, and joy to you.

Good morning Cydney,
I know exactly where you are coming from! It's annoying when you leave off to take a telephone call and you hear the phone being put down. I think some of this may be due to automated calling, so they are probably calling several people at once. However, I always block these calls. My phone also warns me about spam calls which is useful.
I have received a few AI calls, but not many. I believe this is something that will become more normal and it will be very annoying!
Thank you for an interesting blog post.
All the best.
Roy
