The Motivation Equation
What's Motivation?
How Do You Get It?
1. DETERMINE GOALS: You've Definitely Gotta Know Where You're Goin', If You Want a Chance In You Know What Of Gettin' There.
It's Kinda Like My Band, Before We Finally Broke Down and Got a GPS...
LOST.
Hopelessly Lost!
Well No, Not Really. We Usually Got To Our Gigs On Time, but Once In a While...
If You Know Where You're Going, It's a Whole Lot Easier To Get Where You Want To Be.
So, Set Some Goals, Make a Plan, and Quit Wishing Your Life Away!
Know What You're Shootin' For!
2. MAINTAIN A POSITIVE ATTITUDE:
Attitude Is Everything, Man!
It's Not Really What Happens To You In Business Or In Life, It's How You React To It.
Be a Positive Thinker!
You've Probably Heard the Saying, "If You Believe You Can Or You Believe You Can't, You're Right!"
What You Believe Goes a Long Way Toward Determining What Comes To Be.
So, Think Positive.
3. LEAVE PERSONAL PROBLEMS ASIDE:
Don't Carry Around a Bunch Of "Baggage."
It'll Only Weigh You Down!
My Mom Spent the Last Few Years Of Her Life In An Assisted Living Facility. She Had Been There Only a Few Weeks, When She Pulled Me aside During One Of My Frequent Visits, and Asked Me If I Would Have a T-Shirt Made For Her.
"What Do You Want It To Say?" I Asked.
"Don't Tell Me About Your Operations, and I Won't Tell You About Mine!" She Said.
I Laughed, Had the Shirt Made, and She Wore It Often. I Smiled Every Time I Saw It!
Nobody Wants To Hear All About Your Problems.
Don't Let Them Stop You!
Mom Had a Saying: "It's a Good Life...If You Don't Weaken!"
She Lived Past 99!
(That's Right, Friends: I Was a "Miracle Baby," a "Last Time For Old Times' Sake.")
Fact Is, My Mom Had Been Told She Would Be Unable To Have Any More Children.
Guess That Guy Was Wrong, Huh?
And Mom Never Did Weaken!
Stay Strong, My Friends, and Don't Focus Constantly On Your Problems.
4. UPGRADE YOUR KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
This Is Where Wealthy Affiliate's Awesome Training Programs Come Into Play.
I Still May Not Have Techie-Type Knowledge, but I Definitely Know More Than When I Started!
A Comparison Of My Blogs a Few Months Ago With My Current Blogs Will Provide Evidence Of That.
Take It a Step At a Time...
You'll Get There!
5. BE PASSIONATE:
If You've Discovered Your True Passion, It's Easy Creating Content.
You're Doing Something You Like!
It's What You Were Put On God's Green Earth To Do.
If Your Niche Doesn't Excite You...Ditch That Niche, and Find Something That Really Rings Your Chimes!
People Can Tell If You're Passionate About Something, Or If You're Only "Going Through the Motions."
6. DECREASE OR ELIMINATE ENERGY DRAINS:
Non-Supportive People Can Be a Big Energy Drain.
"Energy Vampires," I Call 'Em.
Don't Let This Type Of Person Suck the Life Out Of You.
Try To Surround Yourself With Positive, Like-Minded Individuals.
That's What's So Great About Our WA Community: We've Got a Ton Of Support Here!
7. PRACTICE SELF-TALK:
Some People Swear By Affirmations. (Some Swear At Them!)
Affirmations Are Repeated Positive Statements About Yourself:
"I Am Making Daily Progress In My Business."
French Psychologist Emil Coue (1857-1926), Suggested the Now Famous Affirmation: "Every Day, In Every Way, I Am Getting Better and Better."
Whatever Your Opinion About Positive Thinking and Positive Thought, You've Gotta Admit, It's Better Than the Alternative!
8. CONFRONT CHALLENGES AND FEARS:
If There's Something You Don't Understand, Don't Get Frustrated and Quit.
Never, Ever Give Up...
Keep Trying!
If You Can't Figure It Out, Ask Questions:
There Are Many People Here Who Have Already Worked Through the Problem You're Now Stuck On.
Let Them Help You!
Ask and Ye Shall Receive.
9. MEDITATION:
Meditation Is Always Beneficial To Clear the Mind, Nourish the Soul, and Relax the Body.
As the Giggling Guru, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, Taught Back In the Day, You Simply Allow Nothingness (Facilitated By Your Mantra) To Chase Away the Chaos That Is Currently Cluttering Your Mind.
(Bye Bye, Chaos!)
With Practice, Your Mind Becomes Much More Clear, and You Have Minimal Stress.
Once Your Mind Is Functioning At a Higher Level, With Greater Clarity, You'll Be Better Able To Deal With Important Issues In Business and In Life.
10. ACKNOWLEDGE AND REWARD SUCCESS:
I Felt So Happy When I Learned Simple Things Like Screen Shots and Placement and Sizing Of Images In Blogs.
These Were Minor Things, but To Me, They Made a World Of Difference In the Quality Of My Posts.
Enjoy Your Small Accomplishments, For One Day They Will Lead To Major Success!
A Few Final Thoughts...
Break It Down:
If You Take the Word Motivation Apart, You Get...
Motivate.
Reminds Me Of the 1955 Chuck Berry Hit Song, "Maybellene."
"As I Was MOTIVATIN' Over the Hill,
I Saw Maybellene In a Coupe De Ville,"
I Don't Know About You, but If I Saw a Good Looking Woman In a Cadillac, That Would Definitely Motivate Me!
I Think Chuck Meant "Motivatin" To Mean "Motoring," Though.
"Maybellene, Why Can't You Be True?
Oh, Maybellene, Why Can't You Be True?
You've Started Back Doing The Things You Used To Do."
Then, Of Course, There's "Motive."
I Like Watching "Joe Kenda, Homicide Hunter," On TV.
Lieutenant Kenda Knows How To Solve a Murder. He Tries To Figure Out 3 Things: Means, MOTIVE, and Opportunity.
Motive Is a Biggie...
"It Couldn't Have Been Abernathy, He Simply Had No Reason To Murder Miss Wallingford."
"Colonel Mustard Intensely Disliked the Victim, That's Why He Killed Him With the Candlestick In the Ballroom!"
We Need a Motive, Or a Reason Why We Do Things.
In Business, Too, There Needs To Be a Reason For Doing Something. If We're Doing Something For No Reason, We Need To Find Something Else To Do.
Get Yourself Motivated, and Get Motivatin' Over That Hill!

I love the idea of your mom's t-shirt - I'm nor surprised you would smile every time she wore it :)
Good post Rick. I wish I could get the hang of how to put the images in without messing up my whole post. Lol. One of these days it will just click. No pun intended. Have a good weekend.
What browser are you using, Jean? When I switched to Google Chrome, all my difficulties with images disappeared. I recommend it highly. :)
Great post Rick, but I thought it was Mrs White with the dagger in the billiard room hahahaha.... I loved that game. I have to say as I read through the 10 points I realised how far I have come in the past year & how grateful I am for knowing what I know now & what I have yet to learn. My motto is "Learn something new every day & put it into practise" for that is the way of life.
Thanks, Linda. I've played many games of Clue in my life. I like the motto you live by-You can't go wrong with that! Best regards-Rick :)
This is a book Rick and it is worth submitting as an ebook to Kindle! What a great post. You NEVER run out of steam brother!
Thanks, Steve. This was supposed to be a short post. I really have trouble doing short ones. I need to work on it!
Rick - I think it is better to do long ones, and IF necessary shorten them rather than do a short one and try to make it longer. My (less than) humble opinion. At least no one has ever accused me of excess humility ! :-)
Enjoy your weekend brother.
One idea bounces off another, and an attempted short one becomes long. I'm going to challenge myself to do a short one!
All set, ready to go. But first..garage cleaning project must be completed. Finished yard work early this morning when the heat was not as bad.
Have a good day Vera :-)
I am doing that too.. Often use the "delete" button and need to learn to use it even more..:).
Thanks, Steve. I still want to master the art of the 30-60 minute blog. Not to eliminate the others, but just to mix in.
Looking forward to seeing your "production" brother. And BTW your posts are nothing short of a full blown production. I envy your creativity and when you invent the "pill" to make that happen (impossible I know), let me be your first customer !
Enjoy your Sunday my friend !
Steve
Thanks, Steve. It's almost like making a movie, on some of them. Fun-but time-consuming!-Rick
I don't know how you do it Rick. But ALL OF US are very glad that you do!
A day without a post from you is like a day without sunshine !
Thanks, Steve. During the school year, it may only be one or two during the week, but I'll try to load up on the weekend.
Understand completely. Knowing YOU are teaching our next generation makes me feel a LOT better !
And with you as an example, how could they feel otherwise.
Seriously, thanks for what you do !
You know I do the same when teaching...Not just language, but try to find the language material which uplifts the person...:)
Very good blog, and your mom was a really great lady...Loved the words on her t-shirt...great courage and sense of humour...:)
