Here's one for you, Mike...

Forest Gump..."Run, Forest, run!"

Rocky...getting stronger

Charlie Chaplin running from the law...

The Flash, running up a mountain!

This looks to be a marathon...Those Kenya runners always seem to lead the pack!

Remember "The Breakfast Club?" No running in the hall, guys!

Wonder Woman, Linda Carter...

The right shoes help...

Even Muppets run!

The original Batman and Robin, Adam West and Burt Ward.

Wild stallions love to run...

A red Power Ranger dodging fire!

"Just take him for a walk around the block, she says...It'll be a piece of cake, she says..."

Synchronized running...

Indiana Jones running from a giant boulder with...is that Jean Luc Picard's face?...with a kitty on top...who comes up with these things, anyway?

Another marathon?

In 1963, William Bowerman, Professor of Physical Education at the University of Oregon, published a 4-page pamphlet entitled "The Jogger's Manual." Instructions were simple: Jog until you're puffing, then walk until your breathing is normal again. Repeat.

Soon, people everywhere were running...

"Dogging" on a treadmill...

The black cat doesn't quite have the hang of it!

Red Grange wannabe

Here's Usain Bolt, winning another race.

Bolt, from Jamaica, is the "World's Fastest Man."

Jogging on country roads, getting back to nature...

Bowerman's manual had been based partially upon a visit he made to New Zealand, where he witnessed jogging being used to combat sedentary lifestyles.

In the late 1960's, Bowerman, also a track and field coach, and cardiologist Waldo Harris published a book called "Jogging," which sold more than 1 million copies, and further popularized the jogging craze.

A cheetah can run 70 miles per hour!

In 1968, cardiologist Kenneth Cooper published "Aerobics." Many credit Cooper as the man who popularized running.

In 1977, Jim Fixx wrote a best-seller, entitled "The Complete Book Of Running," which also sold over 1 million copies.

I've got copies of both Cooper's and Fixx's books on my bookshelf.

Trail running...

Jerry, running away with the old lady's bobka...

Running on "Baywatch"

Running to catch a train...

The nice thing is, even with all the popularity of running, we don't have to run to be successful here at WA.

We can go at whatever pace feels right, and we'll get there just the same.

A step at a time gets us to the finish line of this marathon!

Hi Rick, great post. On the side my brother holds the Irish record for having the most marathons run. Irv.

That is awesome, Irv! How many?

I do not know the exact figure but it is close to 700. You can find out about him by googling Peter Ferris. Peter lives in N. Ireland.

Rick - Nice post. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you, Patrick.

That's it! just keep at it, Rick. Mines at a gentle pace :)

My pace is pretty gentle these days too, Carol. :)

You are the running man, Rick

Look out Arnold! :)

Hi Rick, I love it.. Keep running until the end...

Thanks, Kim! :)

What speed do you do on a treadmill Rick?

Pre-fall I was 4.5, at an incline of 10. I'm now rehabbing both knees at 3.5, incline of 10.

That's terrific. You are in the Forrest Gump league!

Just building back up again, Mike.

LOL!

Thanks, Kevin!

Hey Rick,
I see you still got it. Steady as she goes gets you to your destination at your own pace. Great post.
Cheers,
Ken

You're absolutely right, Ken!

Hey Rick,
Thanks for the like.
Ken

You was running out of running themes.

Good one, Andrew!

love this. lol
Do you run for exercise?

If I run now, Melissa, it's intermittent, due to knee issues. I mostly walk, either 4 miles around the river or 45 minutes on a treadmill. How about you? :)
