I hate Wordpress :D
Yes, that's true... At any time in my life, I needed to use wordpress, hours and hours of research were involved.
But finally, I found a free wordpress theme that allows me to do what I want, but still is looking good. All others I tested were great on first look. Getting into it, setting up my layout out of mind, they all leading to a point saying: Oh if you like to change that, buy the pro version. Grrrr... I just wanted to have another font for my site title... Trying to find the hooks in one of the 271 files of that theme.. I gave up. 271 files for one theme? Are they kidding me? That drives me crazy. SiteOrigin's Vantage theme finally delivered what claimed: Still huge, but a free theme I can do all I want, with useful upgrades I might need in the future.
But struggeling around, some of my favorite free tools I've used in the past come back to life again. I think, these might be useful for many here, so I just do a list here, maybe one can help you too:
Firefox Developer Edition - Press F12 and get insight of any website, you can even change it locally, watch page load, errors and much more
paletton.com - aka known as ColorSchemeDesigner. A really great tool for colors
Ampps - a great offline server for test wordpress & co on your pc
Brackets - my first choice free code editor making source coding a fluid stream

I'm having some trouble finding your recommended theme.
Is the developer siteorigin or siteorigins?
Is the name vanguard or vantage?
I've found a theme named vantage at the siteorigin.com site.
