Your Comment is Disapproved! Very Disappointed! What Is MMA Anyway?!

Hi Everyone

I just had two comments on the same websites disapproved!

This was a real blow to me, as I had previously had 100% Approval rate for over 100 Comments!

The comments were for an MMA site, which I assumed was about boxing, and my comment was geared to that. It concerned review for products, including boxing gloves, comparing different types of equipment, and ther was no reference to where eactly they would be used.

But I was told that my comments were disapproved because they were about Boxing and not MMA. Could someone please tell me what the diffrence is? I have never before heard of MMA, so I could not possibly have written a better comment!

It would be really helpful if Website Owners could explain what exactly their subject is if it is not immediately obvious, or if it only has initials in its title. I guess that MMA is something which is well-known in the USA, but by no means all readers come from there.

Sorry if this sounds like a rant, but I am not happy about my 100% Approval rating being ruined because I didnt understand the subject.

On reflection i guess that I should have checked exactly what MMA is, but `I really thought that it was obviously about Boxing equipment!

Ah well, thank you for letting me get that off my chest - Onwards and Upwards!!

Very many thanks for reading this, and I hope tou all have a great, positive and productive day with NO disappointments!!

Update

I just went back to look at what I said, and I realised that the site was called findbestboxinggloves.com!!

So its hardly surprising I thought it was about boxing, is it!?!

Once had that too... and seems to happen to many.. too often.
Give power to some and they become persecutors...
VEry unpleasant.

It is not about you remember
Tells something about them...

How is is "persecuting" to reject a comment from someone who has no idea what your blog post is about?

All that "tells you" about the blogger, is that they don't want a nonsense comment on their post.

Oh well... you can use that to explain... kind of curtesy, no?

Your first comment was strange, but this latest one is downright incomprehensible.

Ok... let me try again...

If somebody does not understand in comment,
i can try to reply and explain... will help many others...

Deleting is easy way
Tells something also

Thank you s much Fleeky :)

Not nice to be baffled away... unless real scam

MMA is Mixed Martial arts, with the Ultimate Fighter Championships (UFC) being the most popular. MMA is actually international as there are fights and fighters from all over the world. I only know because my husband watches UFC often.

While it may be true that certain tools can be used for both sports, the author was targeting MMA specifically, which is highly popular, and your commenting relating to boxing has no relevance to their topic. I understand you're upset, but to be honest, you were not knowledgeable about the subject, which you stated, yet commented anyways.

In the future, I would skip a post if you don't feel you're knowledgeable enough about the topic at hand. Remember, you can also refresh the screen, or leave the SiteComments and come back without having to always use a "skip". You may also want to modify your Interests if you find you are consistently getting content that you're not necessarily knowledgeable about.

Take it as a learning experience for future comments. The skip option is there for a reason, or as other posters have said, take some time and do some research on the topic so can provide a useful comment related to the content the author worked so hard to create.

I personally think that any comment you make you should really read what the post is about before making a comment, if you have no idea about the subject, move on.
On the other hand, however, before anyone disapproves a comment for whatever reason they should message said person to ask them to change it before they disapprove it completely as you have the chance to edit any comment before its been approved or disapproved.
What do people think about that idea?

I made comments on a site that spoke about health and fitness and different brands of sports gear. The owner disapproved my comment because he wanted me to comment only on the home gym. How was I to know that?

I agree, reaching out to someone prior to rejecting it may be a good option. I've seen many people, and have been party to, rejecting comments and in that rejection, stating why which many people don't even read. They just see rejected.

I've rejected a couple comments because they were site feedback and not comments. I've tried to message the person to let them know why I rejected it but I've never reached out prior to rejecting.

I promise I did spend quit a while reading the post!
I would agree with your idea, and would do that myself anyway if the boot was on the other foot!!

MMA = Mixed martial arts and includes boxing as one of the arts, it also includes kicking, grappling and other forms.

Boxing = strictly hands.

Thank you so much Vitally, that is clear now.:)

Chrissie, I would never comment on a product I don't understand. The best way to deal with that is to click on the 'Not Interested' button. By doing that, there is no negative experience for either party.

Many thanks Valerie, but it was an honest mistake! I really did not realise that I didn't understand it, if you know what I mean!!

Is that correct? I I hit that button once or twice and I got a Skip %.
Ian

It's all good Chrissie. No judgement, just expressing what I do - and I'm no expert with managing Site Comments. They're not my favourite thing, unfortunately!

Ian, it is correct as far as I'm concerned. I've never seen a Skip%, but even if I did see it I wouldn't comment on content I don't understand.

Wonder where it came from tnen.

I currently have 100% Approcal rate and 17% Skip rate.

I wouldn't comment on a subject I didn't like or understand, either. It's really hard work adn you'd struggle to write a good comment. You can view the website and make a deision, then close the Comment window and try again a little later without hitting the ignore button. I think...

Thanks for that information Ian. I didn't think about closing a website without hitting the ignore button. I do have a 100% Approval rate at this stage and haven't noticed a Skip rate. No doubt there is one there. I'll look next time I enter Site Comments.

Just to clarify: you commented on an MMA post without knowing what MMA is (or bothering to do a quick check)?

...and you're blaming the blogger for not spoon-feeding you?

I really didn't think I needed to check because the equipment looked just like boxing equipment!

Sorry you’ve had this misunderstanding. These comments take time to put together, it’s not a 2 minute job to write a comment for someone. I think the MMA is Mixed Martial Arts ... I only know because my nieces do it. I’m from the UK and otherwise I wouldn’t have known. But I thought boxing was MBA ?

Many thanks Helen. I am from the UK too, but I'm sure you ar correct about boxing :)

Very frustrating. Please don’t get upset about this, an honest mistake. I very rarely do comments now, something I should do but I’m always so short of time. I am sure you were diligent in your review, so don’t stress.

Thank you so much for your kind words Helen, much appreciated :)

Yes, Comments aren't a 2-minut thing.

I've had several Comments and some look like they were thrown together. There's lots of training here on how to give a good Comment if it's needed.
(Not aimed at you, Chrissie)
Ian

Mixed Martial Arts https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mixed_martial_arts

Compare dams with chess?

Ah thank you Loes, I just assumed it was boxing!!

I personally don't like commenting on posts that I have zero knowledge about. I'd rather just skip it because usually it's obvious to others if you're not familiar with the subject matter. (I'm not referring to "you" directly but saying "you" in a general sense).

Sometimes if I am willing to try harder instead of skipping, I would do a Google search, familiarize myself with the topic and ask a frequently asked question - this way the author will have a chance to engage (which is good).

Yes, you are right, I should not have assumed!
But it was impossible to tell what it was from the post, which was a review of various types of equipment which to my eyes were items which could be used for boxing!

Well, if the author himself wasn't clear then it's a different story. But yes, it's best not to assume especially if it's a totally non-familiar subject matter :)

Many thanks Zarina, I will be more careful in future!

How on earth can you comment on a post if you have not read it?
If you did read it then you could not possibly have understood what it is about - in which case, again, how can you comment?

While you might be frustrated with the site owner (unfairly I might add) imagine how they feel having wasted 4 of their valuable credits for two comments that are irrelevant.

This is the very reason I no longer use the comments.

If you are worried about your approval rate you can simply move on until you find an article that you can comment on.

Honestly, I still use site comments, I just sometimes edit them so that comments don't sound too feedback-like and I don't just keep disapproving everyone.

Those who commented wouldn't mind (I guess) because they still get credits and I did part of the job for themselves.

It seems not too many people are familiar with my niche and it's hard to engage in a feedback-like comment. Usually I end up disapproving only if I get too pissed off or too little time to edit the comments lol

I certainly don't use it as much as I did before. Just requesting 1 comment every once in a while.

I read the post very carefully - it was about which equipment to buy. I even found information about a Christmas present I had been searching for, which was a floor standing punch bag - of course I assumed it was about boxing!
I would NEVER comment on a post without reading it, and I really feel insulted by your comment, and that has never happened before all the time `I have been at WA.

Yeah I get that but you shouldn't have to edit a comment - that makes extra work.

In addition to the above someone posted a link checker site here and when I checked my site I had 12 bad links - all from comments where the referring website or e-mail address through out the error report.

You are responsible for your reactions and feelings to my comments but I can assure you I had no intention to insult you.
I just do not understand how anyone can comment on something they don't understand.
From what you say here you could as easily have made the following comment:

"Hi siteowner. I have no idea what MMA is, sounds like boxing or something to me.
Funny how life works. I was looking for a floor standing punch bag to by as a gift for someone and came across this site - and the one you mention here seems to be the perfect solution?
My friend's a boxer - will this punch bag be suitable?"

That might get engagement.
