How do I Restore a Website from Back-up

Hey Folks,

I need help. I logged into my wordpress and there was an updated version of my theme available. I did a backup and then updated the theme. The update removed all of my sidebar widgets and I cannot get them back on. They show as active in WordPress but are not displaying on my site choicesmakesuccess.com. Can I go restore the back-up I did just before doing this update and if so how?

Just wanted to say thanks to all who offered help. I have resolved the problem. I had to change some of the code in the sidebar.php
Thanks again.

I am having a similar problem. What did you have to do?

LOL. It said recent messages then on the side it said 4 years ago.

I would say, if you know how to backup, you use Tools => Export, right? So let's reverse the process and use Tools => Import. I hope that helps.

Thanks for your reply. I just received an email from theme support which I hope will resolve the issue. Will let everybody know as soon as I try their suggestions.

I had a similar problem a week or so ago. What I did was look at the list of revisions I had done before changing my them. There is a list for each page on your domain if you are in edit mode. I picked one and followed the prompts. It came up with everything I had on it before I installed the update of the theme. Are you sure the new update and that the plugins and widgets you were using are all compatible with WordPress 4.2.4?

They were all compatible before the theme update. I did not change the theme only updated the current theme I was using. I have a second site http://newfoundlanddogsonly.com which I use the same theme for. I did not do the update on that one (thank goodness) and it is still working fine. Just waiting now to see if I get a reply from the support forum or Kyle.

I agree with Kathy if you contact support they will help.

If you contact support they'll have a backup. https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/websites/support

I have done that. The only issue is that the sidebar widgets are not displaying on my site even though they show as active in the wordpress editor. This happened after I logged in and a theme update was showing as available. I did a back-up then updated the theme. I have removed them and added them back. I tried in both the customization menu and the appearance--> widget menu. But the sidebar is blank when you go on the site. Support is telling me to contact the theme creator. I don't know who that is or what.
I did a restore on a test site with the same theme and it failed to restore my media files so not sure I want to do that now. :(.
My second site runs on the same theme but I did not do the update on that one luckily.

that was going to be my next suggestion, theme support. You can contact the forum specifically for your theme here. https://wordpress.org/support/theme/redwaves-lite

What a bummer!!
You should be able to find the theme creator if you go to Appearance --> Themes, and then hoover with your mouse over the theme you have active. Then a sign "Theme details" will show, click it and then hit the name of the theme creator (which is a hyper link).
Good luck!

Checking that link out now. Waiting for the confirmation email for registration lol
