What To Do When It All Seems To Be Falling Apart

Today, one of my houses that I bought, rehabbed and have on the market and was already to close on tanked. The buyers found something they liked better and got out of the deal on a technicality.

A terrible lack of integrity on their part and it left me holding the bag. I know that I kept my integrity throughout. I would rather lose a business deal than my integrity, so they are the real losers, not me. Never-the-less this is not a good situation at all. Now I need to get over it and put the house back on the market and go on. For a while I felt like my world was crashing in on me, but it was just a minor setback in the greater scheme of things.

I need to feel angry, disappointed and a bit fearful for about an hour. Then it is time to get over it, realize it is just a setback, not a catastrophe. I have been through much worse and this will pass. It is all about not responding emotionally....at least not for very long....and getting sane again and moving on.

The worst thing I can do is get caught by the emotions of what is just a business deal and pick myself up and keep on with that old friend...perseverance. It is a lesson I learned long ago - that when things get tough, it's okay to get upset but it's not OK to get stuck. Let the feelings go and focus on what I need to do today, tomorrow and next week to build my business and have a life.

If I get stuck in my anger or disappointment for long then I miss out on the joy of life and the chance to accomplish my goals. The "luxury" of being paralyzed by my feelings keeps the good things out. There is always a solution and the difficult things that happen will teach me one more lesson that will have value tomorrow.
