Site Comment or Site Fluff?

Site Comment or Site Fluff?

Are you expecting a site comment or site fluff? Many are requesting site comments to add value to their post.

I am troubled by the Site Comment expectations. Do not worry, I will keep this brief.

In the 8 months at WA I have had three Site Comments disapproved by the requestor.

The first disapproval was on me. I did not understand the rule of the game. I actually pointed out errors and mistakes on the website.

As far as the latter two, the requestors rejected the comments because they did not add value to the websites.

I am not about fluff!

In my opinion, I try to write comments that give the requestor the opportunity to engage in a conversation.

I ask questions about….. I provide info about me personally for the requestor to demonstrate their knowledge of the subject.

However, I do not pretend that your site is the best thing since sliced bread. And you should not want me to.

Threads without Engagement

What good is it to have 100 comments if there are no threads from engagements?

Most readers attracted to your site are looking for you to provide the value in the article, not the commenters below.

I post and you say thank you for visiting is not engagement.

Instead of rejecting a comment because it does not say what you think it should say is ridiculous.

Taking the time to read and respond to your post (1 point) takes value from my day.

The least you can do is engage with me to point me in the right direction.

Who’s Responsible For Add Value To My Website?

I am solely responsible for adding value to my website. My audience is there primarily to read my content.

Not cypher through the comments for value. Whatever niche I am in has the responsibility of offering reader value.

I cannot expect the audience to do that for me. Some people land on websites by accident and may not know a lot about your topic.

If there is no value in the content, they certainly will not be leaving a comment.

But then, you will probably block it because it does not add value.

How to Leave Awesome Website Comments, Why 50 Words?

I have read the instructions for providing requested comments. For those that do not know, quality and value do have different meanings.

At no point does it say, in the instructions, that a comment must add value to a website.

Apparently, that is some notion that is being passed around.

You want 50 words or more of platitudes to make you post seem perfect. But what if it is not?

What if, as a commenter, I am a beginner, in transition, or just on the other side of the world and not familiar with your subject matter?

As the author, it is up to you to sell you content. As a co-signer, it is my job engage you about that content.

Not do your work for you. Do not make assumptions

If it is not in my wheelhouse, I am going to comment in a way that allows you to engage with me.

However, if would rather reject the comment, that is fine too. It simply means that you will be blocking your actual audience the same way.

And that is too bad!

In Conclusion

It is probably best to quit here. These words may not reach those that need to here this message.

However, for those who reject comments for lack of value to your website, engage the commenter instead of rejecting the comment.

If you are too lazy to address these comments, edit the comment. You have that power.

Your not the only one involved, people are investing their time too!
