WordPress 3.9 Upgrade Issues: Advanced Image Editing Features
Hey fellow WA members, Buck Taylor here with another fantastic WordPress Tip!
I’ve had a few members ask me for help with this issue so I figured it was time to write an article about it. This one is actually a pretty quick fix so this won’t be long at all.
Have you upgraded to WordPress 3.9 and discovered that the Advanced image editing features where you could add borders and margins to your post images is now GONE!!
This has caused some frustration with a lot of people… why would they get rid of a such a great and useful feature? Will it come back in the next update? Who in the hell is running things over there!?
No one really knows but for all you lucky individuals who stumble upon this article, I know how to fix it!
There are two things you can do, one is simple, the other not so much.
The more complicated way would be to add a CSS class to your images and then code in the styles you want. The benefit would be once you added the code all you would have to do is add the “Class” name to each image and they would be instantly styled. The bad thing is if you wanted a different style for different images you will have to add new classes for each one.
However, I’m not going to go into details with the hard way as I’ll just assume you all want the simple way. If you want to know how to manually add the code send me a PM.
So are you ready for the quick fix?
There is a plugin you can install that will add these features back into your Advanced Editor. So go to your plugins page and click on “add new” and then do a search for Advanced Image Styles. Click on install and then make sure to activate it.
Now you should be able to go to one of your posts and click on the images editor button and these new features will be added under your “Advanced Options” settings.
Now I know what you are all thinking, “Why in the hell didn’t he just say that at the beginning!”
I say, “Where’s the fun in that?”
I hope this helps out a few people. And Hey! If you like it, click on that big green button right below here to let me know.

I haven't gotten advanced enough to know about this, but if I decided to use this feature I won't be clueless. Thanks Buck

Hello Buck, I had not discovered this bit of bad news yet, but it sure is nice knowing that it is solved before I had a meltdown! Now you will not have to dig me out of a bloody mess!
Like it, Buck....one more thing I thought maybe I had screwed up....lol
Always helpful stuff - thanks for sharing,

Hey Buck, as I'm building my first website this is great to know in advance. Thanks for sharing such valuable info.
Doug
Sure Doug... you know, some people are saying you shouldn't even upgrade to 3.9 with all the issues. So if you haven't updated yet consider that before you do. I would suggest using google and search for reviews first.
