I thought for a second

It was the year of 2008, I was visiting my father on the east coast of Canada.

We would spend time talking about old times, and of course the tape recorder collecting information of our fishing experiences.

We were standing in the porch (back door) getting ready to take a drive to the many fishing villages along the Yarmouth County area. Dad looked at me and said, Bruce, you can have those shoes if you want them. I thought for a second, and said yes Dad I would love to have them.

I put the shoes in my suitcase and never thought too much about them after that.

Home sweet home

Off to North Vancouver I go. When I returned home and started unpacking, I grabbed the shoes and put them in a box downstairs.

Years Go By

One day last week I pulled the shoes from the box dusted them off, and tried them on. I was so shocked, they fit perfectly. On Sunday I wore them to our chess game. The left sole had a well worn hole. On Monday a visit to the cobbler for repair.

Who made the shoes?

These shoes were made by Scott and McHale under the brand name Astoria and Liberty in Ontario Canada. The company opened in 1909 and was bought out by Florsheim sometime between 1959 and 1963. Dad’s shoes are very old! Dad would have been 100 on March 17, 2017, he passed on 4 years ago.

What did he teach me?

Dad taught me the important aspects of becoming successful in the commercial fishing industry. For many years he was only a phone call away.

How to be a loving husband and good father.

He sure taught me how to buy cars.

He taught me right from wrong, I am sure mother helped with that one.

Why am I sharing?

There are lots of dads, mothers, and grandparents here at the Wealthy Affiliate community, with so much experience and wisdom, willing to help anyone with whatever problem they may have.

I am now walking in my Dad’s shoes.
