How bad do you want it?
One man's treasure...
How do you measure value? It is such an arbitrary thing. One person sees something as a piece of junk and another sees a treasure. One works long and hard to attain a result and another gives up so quickly.
How we assign value can be personal and practical and in some cases the value assigned is based on the impersonal. For instance. although the Hope Diamond is extremely valuable, it is neither personal nor practical.
Included in our assessment of value are needs and desires; the practical and the passionate. Our needs are obvious, I think. The need to have shelter, food and clothing increases the value of them. Conversely, our desire to keep items of sentimental value most often overrides the practical need. How many of us have basements, attics, sheds and garages filled with "value"?
What about the people in our lives? From close family to the complete stranger, we assign value to each one which in turn determines what and how much we invest into those relationships.
What about work? How we choose to earn a living can be based on a wide range of variables, from the passionate to the practical. Do we do what we love or do what we have to? I often quip, "My headstone will read, "He did what he had to do""! A lifetime of working and family, ups and downs, joy and tears can sometimes leave our passions and dreams in neutral even while our lives move forward in high gear.
So, what led you to this moment? Here you are reading this blog on a smartphone or computer. Maybe the title caught your eye and you assigned a subject to the word "it". Maybe the "it" is an idea that's banging around in your head. A thought that something in your life can be different. What is "it" for you and what value are you assigning to "it"?
