Holiday in the USA

Today is a holiday in the US. The banks are closed. The markets are closed. Businesses are closed -- at least some of them. Where I live it is raining. What better time to devote to learning. I need to finish another certification. I am almost done with bootcamp. I need to write some content. I need to clean up my primary website.

And all of these are not only things I need to do but things I CAN do and WILL do...because it is a holiday, it's raining, and I need to get it done. I love the time in commenting and replying and helping...but the key for me is to do the actual work of WA, to get my sites where they are "visitor magnets." Who knows? I may discover something very significant on this holiday.

How long should a blog be in order to qualify as a blog, i wonder.

Today is NOT a holiday in all of the US. I stand corrected. Alaska does not celebrate Columbus Day as a state holiday from work. There may be other states which do not celebrate Columbus Day as well. Where I am, it is and almost WAS Columbus Day. We were quite saddened in our home today as we watched the devastating fires in Northern California. Jocelyn, my wife, is from Santa Rosa. We keep those who have lost so much and experienced such fear in our prayers.

I am sorry about the fires. I was just talking to my husband about them since he has family and his parents have property in Northern California.

It is still a holiday here in Alaska...just not for us State employees. Not sure how it works for others in private industry. There is no mail delivery today so if you are a postal (or other Federal) employee then it is still a holiday.

Oh, my mistake. I think I will just leave the "correction" as is. Thanks. It was a very hard day for Jocelyn, as she heard about and even saw some of her most familiar places burned to the ground...and connected with friends who had lost so much, including some who had not located family. You know how a day or time such as that can just be such a burden. Anyway, she is still asleep so I hope she can rest a bit extra before facing the day. We are to go out with our daughter for dinner for my birthday. She is off work today. Best to you. Have a beautiful day...

Good for you Bob! It is not a holiday from work for me...Alaska celebrates Alaska Day for the State instead of Columbus Day so state employees get Oct 18th off instead!

Get to work!!

I am clueless for a definitive answer but try to be somewhere between 500 and 1000 words for attention span reasons. J

I could live with that. I have a blog on WordPress which I started before I found WA and I think my limit has been about 900 words. It seems reasonable. It has to be some very good writing to keep attention after that...for a blog anyway. I was not sure whether to consider the one I wrote a "blog" since it was so short...but I think the WA operational definition for blog in this format has lots of latitude from some I have read (and some I have written).

Amazing. Columbus had nothing to do with the US. Canada would do better with Leif Ericson Day based on reported settlements in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland!
