Domain Suggestions

While researching domains, the following tips were helpful to me and may help you.

1.While a shorter name and “.com” is better it is
a difficult combination to find. Several domain advisers indicate longer is
probably acceptable if it describes and is the name of your business. Additionally
many have indicated that if you move away from ”.com” it is best to include the “.whatever”
in the name. So if you have to use “.net”, for example, include it in your
business name such as—The Business Store.net

2.Some have suggested testing your domain prior to
registering it. After arriving at your domain, intentionally bring it up in a
conversation, clearly stating it and later, in about five minutes ask the
person you were communicating to say it back to you. If 4 or 5 people do so
successfully, it would seem like it is manageable. If not, probably better to
    make another choice.

Useful points. Bob. It is also a good idea to check the Whois record to see if anyone has owned the name previously. Or check the name on the Wayback Machine. Why would you care? The previous owner/name could have a bad reputation and people have long memories, meaning that there could be a negative association with the domain name.

Or, it could be a site that has Google penalties against it and some owners simply dump the site because they don't want to do the fixes that Google requires in order to lift the penalty. Unfortunately, the penalty stays with the domain name, and as the new owner, you would have to negotiate with Google to get the penalty removed. A bit of due diligence never hurts and can save unnecessary hassle down the track. ~Jude
