Changing Domain Names
I had a domain name for a year, now I want to change the name to a different domain name. How do I get my posts under the new domain name?

Hey billy
one of the biggest regrets i have about my website is my domain name. It doesn't really match too closely to what i am promoting and the new direction i have taken it.
Saying all this, i have quite a few posts ranking on page 1 and don't dare change me domain name. I believe if your content is top notch, it won't matter too much.
You are correct, if you change your domain name after the year is up, and switch over, Google has to start all over. Wishing you all the best.
If you've been ranking under the old domain name consider keeping it. If you change to a new one you risk having to start over in the the ranking game and might even be considered duplicate content at the beginning.
Why not keep your same domain name, just change the domain title. Saves you money from not having to purchase a new domain and retains your rankings. Or do as I am doing and go the sub-domain route. Upgrade For Business | Using Sub-Domains
It hasn't been mentioned here, but you can't "change" a domain name, so I'm assuming you intend to buy another domain, or already have another.
If you change your domain, I’m sure you will lose your rankings with in the search engines unless you haven’t been using it?

You can transfer your domain materials to a new domain name. But I do recall that the actual domain name isn't so important for SEO, if that is what your concerned about.
If your domain name is totally off topic to the niche you have redirected yourself to, then I would see you might want to do this.
