Google Analytics! A Waist of Time!!!!

This Is just my opinion, but I personally think Analytics is just a big run around. Sure you can check to see what traffic your getting, but after that that....WHAT....

It doesn't tell you how to improve what your doing, and if it does it shuts down for no apparent reason. It is simply a guide THAT'S ALL..

I have read from our fine community members and experienced myself the downfalls of Analytics.

If you want to see what traffic you are getting just check your affiliate link analytics, they will give you all the information you need to know.

I think Google is the bully on the block, and Bullies are cowards in my eyes. Do this.... Do that... Did Google show you how to build a business online? Does Google care? They are more than HAPPY to penalize you if you do something wrong.

Your not even a number in their eyes! Stick with WA!!... That's what got you to this point... not Google!

WA IS THE KEY! don't get caught up in the GOOGLE world. It is just a tool that's all.

Even if Google personally hated you, they cannot stop the fine, honest, true, content you produce on your website.

Remember there is always a PARK PLACE to their BOARDWALK!!!

Keep Park Place Alive!!

Hey Bill,

Knowing your bounce and exit rates are extremely useful metrics in my opinion. I am not aware of other tools that report this to be honest. That's not to say they don't exist but Analytics conveniently gives this us and those two metrics alone make the tool worthwhile, let alone the other metrics that we get from it.

I agree with Kyle that people can spend way too much time on it and over analyze, time that could be spent creating content, etc.

Best Regards,
Jim

Great advice Jim, Thanks for the comment.

Have accessing to your website data is absolutely not a waste of time. It will let you know what sort of traffic your website is getting and there are actually many "test" campaigns that you can run within Analytics to optimize and refine your campaigns for maximal conversions.

I do feel that a lot of people spend too much time analyzing their data, but in terms of the quality of traffic/data provided by Analytics, there is no other program that will come close to offering the quality or precision of Google.

Plus, although they say it doesn't, I do feel that things like Time on Page are metrics that Google considers in their ranking algorithm for SEO.

Thanks Kyle, I'm excited to hear the many different responses. It's what makes this community of people so powerful.

If you don't know how to use or analyze the data then I can understand how one would think it was a waste of time.

I spend a few minutes looking at it, just go about your business and keep adding content to your site. The rest will take care of itself.

It's waste, not waist. :)

...and you're, not your :) LOL - Bill, I'm only commenting on this because of michaal!

Sure. Blame it on me.

2

Correct, Michaal. I didn't want to comment on that :)

This is quite different from what a lot of members say about analytics. Some literally spend hours analyzing. I agree with you, that knowing how many visitors/clicks you get doesn't tell you how to improve it. WA tells us how to improve.

2

Thanks Gordi. As I said it is just a tool.

Hi Bill, Agree with you;) Google could have made it simple or friendlier. I have always made that candid remark and blogged: "We all work for the Spiderman!" Take your time, you will feel better once you are done with it. Cheers!

Thanks Fred. good comment

GA is full of all kinds of useful information Bill, but one must first learn how to use it.

It is natural to discount something we do not understand. :)

I suggest if you really want to know how to use it take the training :)

I agree with Shawn. The training helps a lot. Google won't tell you how to fix something, but it will help you determine where the weaknesses are.

It can show you where most people are active on your site, how they find your site, and where they leave your site.

That's al really good information for you as a baseline to improve on weak spots and try and repeat or expand on what works.

2

Thanks Shawn. I was quite skeptical as to who would reply and how they would. We all have our likes and dislikes.

And that is only part of what GA can actually do for you.

It can become priceless for reports and SEO tracking.

2

There you go, you have a point.

Thanks for the reply Jen

Google is quite fickle!

2

Well put, lol.
