The Techno Tard Strikes Again - A Leg Up on the Inevitable Learning Curve

Hello and I hope you're having a super dee duper day. (10 years after and I still suffer from parental Barney overload) Just thought I'd check in with a few observations after four months, 256 followers, hundreds of articles, trainings and blogs read, what seems like an eternity in the chat room (my fav) a million stupid questions, broken pencils, late nights with the not always user friendly WP themes, and making some totally awesome friends here at WA. - - or in other words - The Dreaded and Inevitable Learning Curve. Damn that curve - nothing like the one on Sophia Loren! It's just one of the inescapable evils in life and rears it's ugly head no matter where you go or what you do.

At 56 years old I didn't think i'd be at this stage of the game - much less enjoying every minute of it!! Okay, almost every minute. Apparently you can teach an old dog new tricks albeit somewhat slower than the 'golden days' of my bulletproof youth. And although I'm certainly not even past the beginner stage of my IM career, I finally have a leg up on Old Curvy and am starting to feel comfortable with everything.

There's so many things I want to say but I don't want to bore you with the pedestrian diatribe of an aging newbie internet junkie. That's right - I'm addicted and can't stop but it's not like 'Help, I've fallen and can't get up'. The sparkle of IM, not unlike a Vegas Marquis, the lure of financial freedom and internet wealth drives us like moths to a light. And it's that light at the end of the tunnel that should keep all of us focused on our task - IN SPITE OF OLD CURVY.

What's funny is that people think the curve applies to just beginners. I can't tell you how many times I've heard seasoned IMer's in the chat room asking questions as if babes in toyland. IM is a journey - not a destination, a wonderful daily dose of education, and if you're not too proud to treat it with respect and loyalty, then certainly a journey for a lifetime.

As with any business in the world, you don't make a fortune on your first day like a coconut falling on a beach. I'm always inspired by some of the 'elder' members of this community that still approach IM with awe and reverance, ready to take on new challenges and tackle Old Curvy with the tenacity of youth. And if this sounds like the 'Don't Quit' parable then take it for what it is. One needs to keep the fires burning and the goal line in sight and to the victor goes the spoils.

I love being here at WA (no I'm not a plant) and the education and friends I'm cultivating. I'm in this for the long haul not just a pit stop in the IM 500. And if you like this environment that Carson and Kyle have provided then like this blog and show support for the lads and ourselves. Content may be king but continuity is the queen. Long live the queen.

Best wishes to all and thanks to my friends that are helping me over the hurdles.

You are funny!!!!...excellent writer too! Do you write for a living?.....you should.
I'm a newbie too. It's exciting and yes addicting. Best wishes to you also.

thanks for the comments and glad you liked it - i have a soft spot for writers - and yes i did some professional writing although i have to say we all have our moments of brilliance - too bad mine was like a wet match in a blizzard - but like they say - even monkeys fall out of trees - lol - stay in touch

Good thoughts. Thanks.

God bless.

You? a plant? Hmm, what kind would you be? bean stalk, corn stalk? hmmm? lol

it's a toss up - as long as you didn't say stalk - er - lol

You a plant, Steve, baby? Never! I always think of you as a big, fat, juicy... vegetable. :P "Beautiful and stylishly written", say I through gritted teeth, being of course bitterly jealous as my learning "curve" resembles the share price graph of the last days of Enron. :( Oh, and the light of the end of the tunnel? It's ALWAYS the oncoming train! Love you, madly. Rich. x

plant or vegetable i'm still photogenic - or is that photosynthesis - i've had my share of days where curvy looked like a plummeting tappan gas range off the eiffel tower (sp?) either way i have the help of friends like yourself who are making the curve all that much smoother - always appreciated - keep the faith

thanks john - just trying to get one step closer to promised land - thanks for the inspiration

Are you sure you are not just a minimum wage earner from Bengla-Desh? I think you are a plant. ( A leafy green comes to mind)

The learning curve never stops. If it does you are probably on the wrong side of the turf. Just when you think you have it figured out, either something changes, or you reach the point where you really know what you don't know. Conscious incompetence.

I did a blog post on that way back in the dark ages. Let me see if I can post the link to it once I find it.

i'm going with implant, conscientious objector and love potion number nine and i've never been to bengla-desh despite vicious rumours from the bureau of indian affairs - too much knowledge bad for paleface kimosabe

all seriousness aside thanks for the comment and the four step program - i appreciate all your help and always value your input - may the force be with you

Thanks for sharing your thoughts...very motivational. Being an older planetarian than you.. I can relate.. And as I was telling my daughter only yesterday.. 'After three years of iM hit and run learnings, implementations and many stumbles, I finally feel that I could now enrol for graduate school in IM... The learning curve has been a hard struggle but it's been worth it.. I can see a ray of sunshine ahead..." As Churchill was supposed to have said.. Never, ever give up.:)

i can see a light at the end of the tunnel - i just hope it's not a train (don't know who to give the credit to on that one) - yes it's been a battle at times but if you're going to have problems then this is a great place to get them resolved - and while there is still a substantial curve ahead i know that i'm armed with the tools build my foundation - thanks for your comments and support

OK, Steve! Remember small sites that collect email addresses and point to a video site that may be a vendor site, and until you have a list, put ads to your site in other people's newsletters. PPC can be another way but more risky in my opinion. But what do I know?Keep truckin'! John
