To Discuss or Not to Discuss?
Earlier today I stumbled across a blog post that really caught my attention entitled "Stop Bashing," which inspired me to write this latest post. I was in total disbelief when I read this post and wondered why would anyone want to bash any form of religion in the first place.
One blog post I came across was on Religion which is very sacred to people worldwide. The post discussed some remarks were made publically on live chat that were taking offensively by other members. Respectively, we the members all know that WA is a global business community which means we have members from many different cultures which means different religious beliefs. For this reason specifically, we as members should avoid the discussion of religion within the live chat as our goal here at WA is to learn and not to judge, stereotype, or offend others within the community.
However, I happened to see a comment that stated, "Just stay away from chat if it offends you." Well does that sound fair? Absolutely not, as we have rights within this community and one of those is the use of live chat to assist us when we have questions and to help other fellow WA members. I'm quite confident that when Kyle and Carson started this business community they intended live chat to be a tool to help others within the community and not to discuss things that are not relevant.
Let's get back to the basics of what live chat was meant for like intellectual discussions of how to operate a business online, build a website, earn money and how to accomplish those objectives. For those who have succeeded online to use their skills to help others achieve the same success by answering questions and giving advice. To inspire others within the community by not discouraging them in the first place.
Thus, if you really have to discuss things that others might find offensive or even inappropriate then do so via private chat. There is no need to offend others and make it, so they don't feel comfortable using live chat.

Sometimes I stumble into forbidden areas, but religion isn't one of those, even though I'm a Christian. Yesterday I evidently crossed the line into politics when I was discussing economics, which some people could not distinguish it any other than a political statement. Religion has some pretty sharp borders, making it very easy to distinguish, but politics is a lot more vague in some areas. Sometimes it does affect business and gets discussed, even inadvertently as I did yesterday when I intended it to be about economics.
I just found this post today and being the one who wrote the stop bashing blog, my apology that it caused shockwaves like this. Best bet to let Kyle and Carson deal with stray remarks like I addressed, if they happen to find them.
It's not worth the loss of a membership, being my own nor that of anyone else.
Did not cause a shockwave but rather a discussion in which everyone is entitled to take part in. I like your original post and it actually inspired me to write this one.
I appreciate your stand on it :) I'm glad some people are getting some good out of it.
I can only speak from the standpoint of a Christian. We know from reading the Bible that some people didn't like Jesus and that some people won't like us because we follow Jesus. We have to remember this and understand to the best of our human abilities. We're supposed to be lights for those in darkness. The challenge there is that some people think they prefer darkness. It's not our job to force light into anybody's eyes but it is our job to be an example of Jesus as often as we humanly can.
That's correct. However, everyone of us must remember that Christianity is not the only world religion. Needless to say, one should not need to be a Christian in order to respect others and their beliefs.
Is there another "religion" that teaches that we are to treat people the way we want to be treated? Jesus instructed us to do that. I don't know much about other faiths or their gods. I do know that we were created with free will and that upon accepting Christ as savior we receive the Holy Spirit who helps us be self controlled if we let him. My observation is that people seem to behave better when they have a good model.
Unless someone has a specific religious niche in this community they want to market a product or service on, I'd personally stay away from it.
You attract bees with honey, not vinegar.
You're absolutely right! You don't have to agree with someone, but at least respect the beliefs of others.
Treat someone like you want to be treated!
Again, you say it right! This is a place to help others, helping them to feel better insteat of worse, better overall I believe, but in the first place better at achieving their goals with internet marketing.

This is my simple religion.
There is no need for temples; no need for complicated philosophy.
Our own brain, our own heart is our temple; the philosophy is kindness.
