About Bennyweewee
Joined March 2018
Although I first studied in Civil Engineering, I am now a computer scientist (programmer). I live in Quebec City and am single (regretfully).

There's some irony in my joining a program to make money on the net, as I feel I live too much in the virtual world and would like to do more tangible things. Also, I feel I live too vicarious a life and therefore try to stay away from social media more often. I have also been considering writing books (especially Kindle ebooks) for some time (years, actually) but not begun yet - perhaps I'm just not motivated enough.

I no longer practise any sports and have few hobbies - which is bad. I still read a lot though and like to learn new stuff.

I'm looking forward to making some money online and having fun doing so - the latter part is as difficult as the former because I feel I must be very interested in the niche(s) I choose in order not to feel salesy. I'm currently considering geek stuff and everything that's beautiful and if possible, out of the ordinary.

If I could do anything I want, I would build scientific/recreational exhibition parks and what I call country symbols - such as the Eiffel Tower or the Statue of Liberty - anything that unites art and science/technology. That's why I studied Civil Engineering in the first place, I like roads, bridges, tunnels, dams, subways, etc.

And if I were to be reincarnated in someone more physical and less intellectual, I would like to be a forest firefighter pilot.

Hey Guy, just stopping in to see how you're doing, if you have any questions at all. Always glad to have a fellow Canadian here :-) Hope you're enjoying the training.
I think most of us can relate to not wanting to feel "salesy" and I think you'll find the training and community here is focused more on helping others and connecting to your audience (which you definitely have the ability to do as I mentioned in my reply to your goals comment)... rather than selling.
Anyway, let me know if I can help with anything,
Jay

I hope things are going well. I know you are getting rolling within the training and there is ONE thing that always tends to confuse people and that is "what is my niche?".

I know, same thing happened to me when I started.

I just wanted to reach out and let you know that I am here if you ever want to run any niche "ideas" by me or you have any questions about finding your niche.

Get back to me when you get the chance! :)

Thanks Kyle. It's interesting so far. I stopped yesterday (actually, this morning) because it was around 5 a.m. I will resume the training again shortly once I have listed a few niche ideas. I think I will have several ideas easily, the main difficulty will be to evaluate the size/potential of said niches.

All niches have a ton of opportunity within them. There are 3.75 BILLION people online and we are all now more connected than ever. This is the audience you are dealing with the Internet and even some of the most obscure niches have millions of people interested in them.

You should read about this here within a blog post I recently created on this exactly topic: YOU make a niche profitable and that is why it is important that you decide on a niche that you are interested in/passionate about. It will make the journey that much more fun and exciting. ;)

Well, I used to think of affiliate marketing as selling either boring stuff such as dietary supplements or dog training stuff, or downright silly things such as penis enlargement products, both kinds of which may be very profitable but would make me feel utterly miserable. That's also the kind of stuff that's the object of most spamming - I have received so many penis enlargement spam messages that perhaps I should wonder whether someone somewhere has insider information about me.

But now I come to realize that some of the things that interest me can also be considered in affiliate marketing, which is much more motivating. What I'm considering right now is beautiful (even showy to some extent) or geek things that could make great gifts, such as the kind of stuff you can find at sites like these ones (which have their own affiliate programs by the way):

Smithsonian Store
Hammacher Schlemmer
Acorn Online
Think Geek

And naturally, you can have some of these sort of things at Amazon, Wayfair, etc., too. But this still corresponds to maybe thousands of niches, and even if I trim it down to what I truly like, it will still probably mean lots of niches. Therefore I suppose I will just pick one randomly at first and eventually expand gradually into adjacent niches. Later, I might be interested in DIY stuff, especially anything low or no maintenance, for people like me who intensely dislike chores and want to reduce them to the minimum possible. There are several Facebook groups on the topic, which might prove an interesting source of ideas.

That said, what I find difficult right now is to determine whether a niche is too broad. For example, if I pick these few niches at random:

- jigsaw puzzles
- scented candles
- garden gnomes
- cuckoo clocks
- tiffany lamps

Would you have a tendency to think they are too broad or OK?

Thanks and best regards,
Guy

A niche can honestly be anything, what are you passionate about? What are you interested in?

When deciding on a niche and trying to narrow down to a more specific niche, I recommend you ask yourself the following question:

I want to help people that ______________.

Fill in the blank and you are going to be much closer to a specific audience. After you do this and if you want to run any further ideas by me, let me know and I will give you a hand. :)

Focus on just ONE website and create success with that before diversifying and creating multiple niche websites.

It only takes ONE website in one niche to be very successful online. I usually find that folks that try to do too much at once (focus on several niche websites) end up in a state of mediocrity because it can be overwhelming and you don't really ever become the expert in just one niche.

It is the experts (specialists) that create long term, successful businesses in any niche.

Hi Guy, and welcome to Wealthy Affiliate.

I just wanted to reach out, say Hi and see if you have any questions.

The community is also available if you have any questions, and... Kyle or Carson (Wealthy Affiliate's co-founders) will often stop by and welcome new members. Just hit reply to any of our messages if you need anything.

Just a couple things to keep in mind...

One - If you ask questions and interact with the community you are far more likely to see results with your business. The support here at WA is the best in the internet marketing industry...please take advantage of it.

Two - You can always get access to me for one-on-one help by leaving a message on my profile https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/jpetrie (as well as responding directly to this message).

There are a ton of other features worth exploring, but they are all explained in the main training... just hit the green Get Started Button in the top left (if you haven't already).

Did you know you'll already have your website built by lesson 4?

Before you go, can you please respond to this message so I know you made it inside the community? I'd like to connect with you so I can keep an eye out for your questions this week.

I look forward to getting to know you and please don't hesitate to get in touch if there's something you need.
