Happy Father's Day
Hi, Dads around the world. Did you know that on July 5th in 1908, a church in W. Virginia held a ceremony for 362 coal miners, fathers who died in the coal mines of Monona W. Virginia? It was the beginning of an event that would become famous many years later. In 1909, Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane Washington tried to start an official holiday for Fathers that was similar to Mother's Day. Sonora talked to government officials about her idea, and people start to listen with interest. On June 19th, 1910 Washington State was the first state to celebrate Father's Day officially.
In 1966, President Lyndon Johnson signed a document honoring fathers on the third Sunday in June.
In 1972, President Richard Nixon signed a document making Father's Day a Federal Holiday.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, there are over 70.1 million Fathers in the United States.
Today, Father's Day is recognized and celebrated around the world. How awesome is that!
Happy Fathers Day Dad:)
