Writing Into the Silence

Hi all,

I am writing my experience because; if someone is coming new they can understand everyone is going through this phase at the beginning.

I want to talk about a really specific, kind of awkward feeling that almost every single one of us goes through when we start out.

We sit down at our desk after a long day. We pour our heart into a helpful article, spend hours making sure it looks nice, find the perfect pictures, and finally build up the courage to hit that blue "Publish" button.

And then… absolutely nothing happens.No comments. No visitors. The tracker stays at a flat zero.

It feels exactly like standing on the stage of a massive, pitch-black theater, whispering our best stories to rows and rows of completely empty seats.

Think about a massive airplane. It can’t just jump straight into the sky from a complete standstill; it needs a long, flat stretch of concrete to roll down and gather enough speed to lift off.

We live in a world where everyone wants to go viral overnight. But let’s be completely honest with each other: Are you actually glad your very first article didn't get 50,000 readers? When I look back at the first few things I ever put online, they were a complete mess. My writing sounded stiff, my sentences were clunky, and I had no idea how to recommend a product without sounding like an annoying salesperson.

The silence of a brand-new website gives us something priceless: the freedom to make mistakes in secret. We get to practice and figure out how we actually like to talk to people.
