Here's a simple breakdown based on my understanding what each one actually involves as I have experienced both in my real life.

What affiliate marketing looks like

We promote someone else's product and earn a commission when someone buys through our link. We don't handle the product, shipping, customer service, or returns. Our main job is creating content like blog posts or videos, that gets people to click our link.

What dropshipping looks like

We run an online store and sell products without holding inventory ourself. When someone orders, a supplier ships it directly to them. We handle the store, the ads, customer questions, and any problems that come up with orders.

I am also currently doing this. It is kinda complicated and requires a lot patience in handling customers.

Where affiliate marketing is simpler

There's no store to manage, no customer service to handle, and no money tied up in ads before we've made a sale. We can start with just a website or social account and no upfront investment beyond our time.

So far I am leaning towards affiliate marketing. However, affiliate marketing also requires efforts and patience but it is not much stressful compared to drop shipping.

Where dropshipping is simpler

If we're comfortable with paid ads and enjoy the idea of running a store, dropshipping can bring in sales faster once it's set up. It's more hands-on, but some people prefer having a full store instead of just sending people elsewhere.

I haven't abandoned drop shipping since I have managed establish a market.

The real difference for beginners

Affiliate marketing usually has a slower start, but far fewer moving parts. Dropshipping can bring quicker sales, but comes with more to manage and more risk with ad spending and customer issues.

I have succeeded with drop shipping earlier because of the context. That's a personal story.

Which one is actually simpler

For most beginners with no experience or extra money to spend on ads, affiliate marketing is the simpler starting point. Fewer things can go wrong, and you're not responsible for the product or the customer once the sale happens.

Both can work. It just depends on how hands-on you want to be from day one.

Have you tried either one? Which did you find easier to get started with?
