It's a long story.

I would like to ask forgiveness, for I have sinned. It's been several weeks since I last blogged.

It all started about three weeks ago, when I realised how much I miss my good friends, most of them are in Johannesburg which is almost 1500 km away, but I have a few friends who live in Cape town, which is only 150 km from where I live. I asked my Wife if she would like to go to CT for the weekend, but she decided to stay at home.

So, on the Friday morning, I packed some clothes, jumped on my motorbike, and headed for Cape Town, the weather was perfect.

When I reached CT, I took the beach road from Sea Point and ambled along to Camps Bay, where I came across a crowd of people looking at a car, all mangled up and lying in the sea.

This had happened a few hours earlier and one body had been recovered from the wreck, I think the guy committed suicide.

As I looked up towards the mountain, I saw a Para

glider, which had just launched from Cathedral Peak, so I headed on up there and took some photographs.

Some crazy people running off the edge of the mountain with a parachute.

And of course, Table Mountain.

American tourists from Texas, preparing to run off the mountain.

I headed back down to the city and had some lunch. Later that afternoon, I met up with my good friend, Pete, who I have known for almost 40 years. I stayed over at his house that night, had a few drinks, and supper at 2am on Saturday morning.

Pete's pub.

At about midday on Saturday, I headed off to Hout Bay, to catch up with another good buddy, George, who I met about 20 years ago. He had prepared a delicious lunch, consisting of sushi and an assortment of bread rolls, and of course, beer.

Weate our meal at the harbor, just watching the boats and seals.

We had a visitor who looked a bit hungry, so we fed him some scraps.

A juvenile Kelp Gull.

We then took a stroll to the end of the breakwater, and came across a huge bull seal, and a little further on, a tiny shark, just lying on the ground. George picked up the shark and offered it to the seal, but the seal made it quite clear that shark was not part of his diet.

After that, we drove up the mountain to see the sun set.

Saturday night, we ended up at a restaurant that specializes in gourmet burgers, best burger I've ever had. Woke up some time on Sunday morning and went to the local indoor market, where I managed to find some essential oils that my wife needed to make her organic face cream.

Had a bite to eat, got back on my bike, and rode back home.

Now, the problem is, I enjoyed that weekend so much, that I find myself constantly thinking about my next trip, and the result is, I don't get any work done. Maybe I should become a tour guide.

So, what did I learn from my weekend excursion?

  1. Never drive a car into the sea.
  2. Friends are very important.
  3. Eat supper before midnight and don't drink so much.
  4. Sushi can be served anywhere.
  5. Seals don't eat sharks.
  6. I don't ride my bike often enough.
  7. It's ok to jump off a mountain, as long as you have a parachute.
  8. Cape Town is an awesome place.

Well that's all for now, just remember; stay safe out there.

John.

I miss my home state, Connecticut. I do get there one or two times a year--grew up on the shoreline, but it is as beautiful inland as shoreline. Homesick....

Thanks for reading and commenting Donna.

Superb photos - hopefully I may get to see for real some day! Thanks for sharing John.

Very nice John, some awesome photos. I will just have to meet you at the pub, looks quaint. I love the rustic taverns. :))

Thank you Kim, there are lots of little rustic pubs around Cape town.

Thanks for the pictorial tour of places many of us don't get to see in our lifetime, John! Work your butt off for a few weeks and then take off again on the spoils!

Thanks for checking up on me Carla. I've been thinking of going to the Drakensburg soon, Google it, and you'll see why. I haven't been there for about 25 years.

Love the pictures. Thanks for sharing your journey with us, Cape Town might make it on my bucket list now!

Thank you, I think it must be one of the best places on earth, pictures don't do it justice.
