Hi everyone. There might be some of you that are in college or are already college educated and have degrees. To all of you that have degrees, I was wondering, have any of you had success in finding careers? The reason why I'm asking is that not everyone, including myself, who have degrees in Business Administration and Information Technology have had difficulties landing a job where the degrees were achieved from For-Profit colleges. I'm not sure about you, but I doubt that colleges are beneficial to our future. Thus, it illustrates what is shown in the picture below.

So, do you agree with this post? Feel free to share your thoughts as I am eager to hear what you all have to say.

Have a great weekend!

I have a Associates in Criminal Justice and it hasn't done any good. The job that I have always wanted was to be a probation officer for teens. Now days you need your Bachelor degree.

Many job descriptions are written by people who are out of touch with reality. Certainly a degree is a must for some fields, such as mine, Pharmacy. However I have had Pharmacy Techs with several years of OJT become as able as many pharmacist.
One of my University profs drilled into us two important facts.
1- If you intend to own a business- Learn it. Learn how to maintain the floors because if you don't know how you can not tell anyone else how, nor know if they are not being done correctly.

2- He told us that when we graduated we would be as knowledgeable as any Pharmacist anywhere. BUT- the but is the important part- But if you do not make study a DAILY part of your routine in 3 years you will be out of date.

He was right on both scores- New medicines and methods of administration that Pharmacy now has many sub-section specialities. i.e. Nuclear Pharmacy- Home IV - Pain management and the list continues to grow.

Much of what you are attempting now, to master internet marketing and website management or most any other field, requires constant up-dating of your skillset. Study and prosper, fail to keep up to date in your industry or field and in a short time you will wake up and the opportunities are passing you by- and you don't know why.

I will add this. None of us can know what we don't know.
Only a constant curiosity and hunger for knowledge; a constant striving to be better tomorrow at what you are doing today; and by constantly studying can we learn what we don't know, and remedy the problem.
Knowledge is power-
Humm??? I guess that is enough for one lesson. :)

I know what that's like to just have an Associates Degree and not having any jobs. Since you said that nowadays, you need a Bachelor's Degree, I have that too, and so far, it's as good as an Associates Degree. So, with that said, maybe it's best to have a Masters/PhD?

We have a totally different education system. Only about 10 % of all students go for higher education after the mandatory schooling. Almost all start an apprenticeship which goes for 3 or 4 years. Once you graduated from your apprenticeship, you have the possibility to go and study. Here too, only about 10 % go on studying, because most people with higher degrees earn for many years less than the ones who graduated from apprenticeship only.

Wow, at least from where you're at, there's an apprenticeship. In the USA, you'll be lucky to even have that. The college system is set up for students to not have jobs in the first place, only empty promises.

Our education system has many problems too. It's by far not perfect. The best of it is really the apprenticeship part. I too prefer to hire somebody who made an apprenticeship, even I normally have to pay him or her a higher salary. But at least I get somebody with experience in working. As you sure know too: To study or to work are really two different pairs of shoes.
I wish you good luck with your work. And to do some extra money on the site is definitely the way to go. Maybe with time it will become your main income.

I agree. I can only hope for the best. *Crosses fingers*

I believe the only degrees that are successful are certain professions like teachers, doctors, dentists, and lawyers. those are the professions that need a degree.

I have an associate's degree and I've been stuck in jobs that a allow someone who didn't finish high school. I said nuts to that and took up a whole new career in freelance writing. I don't have a degree in writing or journalism or anything like that.

I agree with you. I just wished that colleges told me that when I before I signed up with them that only certain professions are guaranteed jobs right after graduation. But, I just got the run-around of them saying that I'll get a job once I graduate which is so not true. Once I obtained my 2nd degree and to find out that I have no jobs, I said screw it with school. So, no more of the college education. I feel that the WA University has more of a beginner's chance to have success compared to any college education that's out there.

Hi aarmand,
I believe in a more stable economy it would make a huge difference whether or not you obtained a degree with a for profit college or a traditional college.
Jerome

You might be right. My only gripe with colleges, whether if it's for-profit or not, should tell us from the start what's needed to land jobs. Instead, they say that they're going to "land jobs" for us upon graduation. This is VERY bogus and unethical.

Armand,
I do think this is true for a lot of college degrees. There are so many who just get the easiest degree in hopes of landing a job. There is lots on Internet about top jobs to go after that are hiring. It's sad because most can`the touch those jobs. I think that's why a lot of people don`t finish college. They believe they want get a job anyway and the cost of college is outrageous.

Wow, you're speaking to more than 80% of students who have graduated or are currently taking college courses. I was fortunate to not have dropped out. You are right in saying that most students can't touch the jobs that are hiring because these jobs require "experience". This is a "catch 22" in trying to land a job. How are we supposed to get any experience if they don't hire in the first place? It just boggles the mind.

Having an college degree means more job options and chances of get promotion will be higher.

I am not too sure about that. I have 2 degrees, one being an Associates and the other being a Bachelor of Science. And, I can tell you from experience that neither of the 2 degrees got me ANY permanent positions.

I hold several college degrees. One in Management and 2 in IT among others. I will say that without these degrees I would NOT have earned a 6 figure salary each of the last 25 years. I also have a massive personal drive which also contributed.

The massive personal drive scores the most points.
Many in colleges think 'my degree' will land me a good job.
Everyone who is hiring wants someone who will add value to the company. If your degree lets say in social studies- will not add value - to the employer then forget it.
What I am trying to say is everyone, who doesn't have a marketable degree or skillset will find that a degree will likely not get a job in their field.

Wow, I think you said it right, Darrell! I don't think I can add to what you said as you summed it up well. Maybe it takes a certain degree to land a job? Hmm...

Whatever the case may be, at the end of the day (or after the degree is obtained) a degree will do no wonders of landing ANY job. Unforunately, me and many others fall in this category of not landing a career, let alone an entry level job that relates to a field of study.

Good and may God bless your efforts in this endever

The world is definitely changing. I think a degree is helpful but not like it once was.

Tell me about it. A degree is nothing more than just a piece of paper that states that you completed all the necessary courses to graduate. Nothing else.

Very true. I haven't had luck with my degree either.

I am sure that statement goes to more than 80% of people that have college degrees. Since I have 2 of them, I said to myself, no more schooling for me. Sigh...

Education is only as good as the employment infrastructure it is supposed to be destined for!

I agree w/ you 100%
