The Passing of a Boxing Legend

I just heard the news over an hour ago, the passing of Cassius Clay, aka Muhammad Ali. May his soul rest in peace.

I know that many of us weren't alive to see one of his famous bouts. But for those who were, can anyone recall one of his greatest bouts between him vs. Joe Frazier that's famously known as the "Thrilla in Manila?"

Thanks for holding Muhammad Ali in the light for us to see. He demonstrated for us, as he evolved himself, a great example of human values in action.

I hadn't heard this news - thanks for letting us know! I had such admiration and respect for him, he will be remembered forever!

Yw, Anna. Yes, he was an inspiration to us all. May he "float like a butterfly" in heaven.

he was a hero to us all.

Yes, I would agree.

I remember it.

Muhammad Ali, has been my idol since I was eleven and I either listened to or watched most of his fights. The three fights against Joe Frazier were monumental, but the nastiest, both physically and psychologically was the "Thriller in Manila. Joe Frazier never forgave Ali for the things that he said pre-fight. Ali stated after the fight that was the closes thing to a death experience. Great man, warrior and statesman. RIP.

I see. I feel that there won't be another boxer like him with his charisma. The closest that I know is Mike Tyson.

I do not think there will be another boxer like him. The closes was Sugar Ray Leonard. There is a difference between what is termed a boxer versus a fighter. In my opinion Mike Tyson and others are in the class of fighters. To me a boxer is someone that dances (moves on the balls and toes of the feet) moving forward (offence) or backwards (defence). Ali was one of the best.

I agree. If I remember it correctly, Sugar Ray was very vocal during his promos before his big bout vs. "Marvelous" Marvin.

I was wondering if anyone in WA would even say anything about this. Good job.

I know. This news was a major shocker. I just wish the best for his family.

Yes the passing of a legend , he did just as much if not more out side the ring respect.

Yes, he was one-of-a-kind.

RIP

A colorful, yet true, boxing legend.

Great post
John
