Hello all!

In my previous post, I showed a picture of the advantages of owning an online business. I forgot to mention that there are also disadvantages to that as well. Not to be the bearer of bad news (it's not my intention), I would like to show you the disadvantages of having an internet business as being shown below.

Hopefully, the advantages outweigh the disadvantage. Feel free to share your thoughts about this as I am eager to hear what you all have to say.

Hey,

Diversity is good. This is the first blog post I am seeing here with the disadvantages of online businesses.
Personally...........
I want the best of both worlds, A physical and an online business. I get to experience the products because the are in my line of work.

Great points though. I had already considered all of the above and the benefits seemed to outweigh the disadvantages :)

-Crystal

Thank you, Crystal! Diversity does play a role in life, let alone an online business. I am sure that there are other posts on here in regards to disadvantage to having an online business. I feel honored that you saw that this was the first one...lol.

In all seriousness though, it's always best to focus on the positives. If you'd like you can also read my previous post about the advantages of an online business:

Reality is that more and more people are shopping online...Little wonder, it is a lot more convenient...There are ways to combine the actual shopping experience (i.e. personalized service) with e-commerce...

If you can add just a few of these 'advantages into your store and the shopping experience for customers, I think you will win over the doubters....

Good points though!

Cheers!
Dave : )

Thanks Dave! It's best to focus on adding the positives to an online business. This, in turn, will make it that much more lucrative and thriving. Which should have repeat customers.

On the other hand, if we focus on the negatives, then an online business would be going downhill. Thus, those "doubters" wouldn't have a second thought of coming back.

So, you're right in saying that adding the advantages to an online business would make it worthwhile.

You followed my suggestion as I can see. Great! Well, do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages? My answer: Yes and No! When you know the product and you don't need it urgently then E-commerce is a big advantage. If you're looking for a product you did never use before or a product you need immediately then it is more a disadvantage.
Thanks for posting this article!

Yes, you've given me an incentive to come up with this post. In regards to seeing if having an online business has an advantage or not, I agree that it can either be both. At the end of the day, for an online business to be and stay advantageous, one must stay focused and never give up.

I think you made some valid points about e-commerce. However, the "Lack of Personal Touch" can be overcome by blogging and writing articles on a regular basis. It is just like reading the newspaper, but we are reaching millions of people. Your personality comes out through writing. Plus, we post our picture to make it more personal and we provide an email address for people to contact us.

Your other point about, "E-commerce Does Not Allow You to Experience the Product Before Purchase" depends upon the product. I am selling magazines, cookware, bake ware, kitchen supplies. All these items can be viewed before purchase with a photo and description and explainations of the product.

Susan

You got that right, Susan. Your point is almost like Siza's (cizamazula). It is up to the owner of the website to come up with a way to make the products on the site to be as great as can be. If the business owner can do that, then owning an e-commerce would be more advantageous.

Thanks for sharing, Armand!

Yw, Rebecca!

I agree that there are pros and cons to everything. In my opinion, the pros outweigh the cons.

The pros outweigh the cons if we let it by staying the course and being focused.

Gee, when you weigh up the advantages and disadvantages it all boils down to what you want for yourself in regard to business doesn't it?

Thanks, Armand, great post. Very helpful.

Sharon

Yw, Sharon. And yes, it does boil down to what we all want for ourselves to having an online business.

I agree with the fact that you cannot experience the product before you purchase. This is especially true for clothing cause it might look good on the model, but not on you.

Good point, Siza. It is up to the person selling the product to give the best impressions to make the product "stand out" as much as possible. This way, he can have some sort of credibility.

Good Morning from here,
They are Internet based only right? I think some would not be educated to use computers. But, even with disadvantage of not seeing or feeling,I think people would buy if they felt it was something to help them.

Yes, internet based. I would agree to your statement, and add that they would also buy if they had the right guidance as well.

This type of navigation is necessary in any on line business!

Ikr, right? One must take the good with the bad in an online business venture.
