Anzac day
Today in Australia we celebrated Anzac Day. The acronym stands for Australia and New Zealand Army Corp. Anzac Day is a public holiday when we pay honour to the soldiers who fought in Turkey at a place called Gallipoli.
Gallipoli cost the Allies 141 000 casualties, of whom more than 44 000 died. Of the dead, 8709 were Australians and 2701 were New Zealanders.
There is a dawn service to honour the men and women who fought and died in this war. Gallipoli really provides us with a set of values and it created a strong nationalism in Australia. The service also honours the men and women who fought in the succeeding wars and who are still fighting to protect us.
It is a sad day for many men and women.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning we will remember them.
Lest we forget.
