Oh, grow up, will you?
It's story time!
Just a few days ago I came across an interesting situation. At one of my jobs, I work with young colleagues (age 18-25) and they have some epic reactions on different customers who acted silly:
1. Customers age 4-15 acting silly.
Colleagues reaction = Pfft stupid kids....
2. Customers age 15-30 acting silly.
Colleagues reaction = Oh, grow up, will you?
3. Customers age 30-40 acting silly.
Colleagues reaction = OMG weirdos...
4. Customers age 50-90+ acting silly.
Colleagues reaction = what a great, funny person!
Ok here's my thoughts...
When we are kids, we see life as this fun and interesting place. We climb, run, jump, explore and everything makes us smile.
Puberty time hits us the hardest as we are trying to figure out ourselves. Plus the society's standards suddenly matter a lot.
Young adulthood is the time when we move out from parents' house and learn to function by ourselves.
Adulthood is the time when you figured out most of things about yourself and now trying to live the life the way you always wanted.
Middle-age time and up is when you learn not to give a crap anymore.
Your Inner Child
If you are in the age group 30-50 and you have managed to reach the stage of liking who you are, allowing yourself to be silly and not worrying what people will say about you, you will be a weirdo in most of people's eyes and they will tell you to "grow up".
Not every adult has the ability to express their inner child publicly, make funny sounds, to scream WOOHOO! YAAY! when good things happen and enjoy the world around them. If you are different from them, they will use their words to discourage you, so they can feel better about themselves being the serious adulty-adults.
At the end of the day - IT'S YOUR LIFE!
If a fart-pillow or weird sounds make you laugh, then laugh! If cats make you happy, then be the crazy cat lady, if you love to sing, then sing wherever you are, even at work! If good things happen, scream YEAHHH! and do the happy dance! If you like animations, cartoons, role playing, anime, gaming etc., then do it!
If there's anything that can make you smile or laugh during your day, no matter how "childish" it is, it will create good feelings inside of you, which will result in a good day! In the long run, you'll get to live a fun, free and interesting life!
Adult life is serious enough, believe me...if you also go 100% serious, it's like adding more heavy load to the heavy load on your shoulders. There are moments when some things need to be taken seriously, but there is time and place for it. When it comes to a day to day life, don't take life too seriously. :p

at 55 my kids think i'm a nut case cause I enjoy life and yes act like a kid at times :) I love it when the carnival comes to town.
Life is too short to sit around and mope or try to live up to what society thinks is normal, I love my inner child.

Excellent. I'm an online gamer in my 50s. When my oh-so-serious adulty-adult friends get wind of it, they invariably roll their eyes and click their tongue. My response is usually a popular phrase used in a game I play. For propriety's sake, I'll use the (relatively) clean version of OLTFU here. :-)

When I see my kids, I feel like I see myself in the child.
Laugh and their silly thing act and play with food. Make me happy.
With no reason. Easy happy for me is take a bath for my little girls.
