It can be theme specific or you can modify the settings within the themes.
You want to set featured image within your posts. The option is towards the bottom right of the screen when you are in editor mode for the posts.

I don't quite understand the question. When each image is set, you choose how it will align with text by choose the icon for the positioning you want when you click on the image in site manager.
