Windows XP Infographic

I have just created and posted my first ever infographic. Learn what an infographic is.

I decided to use an infographic as people absorb the information easier than a block of text. My infographic was based around the current worldwide usage of Windows XP. I put on it some figures of the previous 2 years and the most recent figures for certain countries including the United States, Canada, United Kingdom and more.

My idea here is to make something that is shareable. With that in mind I have uploaded the image to my google+ account, facebook page and created a new blog post on it. Windows XP End Life Infographic. Go and check my infographic out.

You will notice on the infographic I have added a call to action at the bottom, prompting people to stay safe and upgrade via another blog post I have created. That blog post is entitled How To Install A Fresh Copy Of Windows 7 In Easy Steps.

The idea here being to generate traffic to this particular blog post which of course contains my affiliate links to Amazon.com to purchase Windows 7.

It is a little experiment I am conducting. Lets see what happens.

If you have any advice or how to make this more effective don't be afraid to get in touch. Also if you want to learn more about infographics just leave a comment. :)

I like it, what did you use to create it?

Regarding XP, I went to a customer today (my computer business) who just got a virus on his machine. Guess what, he's using XP even though I've told him he needs to upgrade. He's also using IE 8, even though I told him to use firefox or chrome. And the virus has completely wiped his system, he's lost a lot of personal information. I've got to tell him the bad news now.

PS on your site you have a cool about me widget, what is that?

I used to repair computers for a living and seen this happen all the time. At that point I told them the bad news and advised a full and complete format. Then a fresh install. I also printed a copy of how to avoid viruses in the future and recommended a good antivirus. Let me know how he takes it.

My Author Widget is litterally just a picture I made and inserted into the widget area. I used a plugin called Visual Editor.

You can get it from here. https://wordpress.org/plugins/black-studio-tinymce-widget/

Simply drag the widget into your sidebar and add images etc. I decided to use an image so as not to have duplicate content of every page of my site. :)

I too think it looks great. I am not usually such a fan of infographics. Even though they look great and might be really useful when revising for exams, I don't like them much for gaining information. But yours is different. It's easy to see what you want to show.

I originally read your article about upgrading because I still run Windows XP. When I bought my present laptop, it would have come with Vista installed. But I didn't want Vista because of its bad reviews so I specified I wanted Windows XP. But now my laptop is getting old in laptop years anyway, I don't want to install anything else.

I can't remember whether I read your 7 easy steps, I mainly read about the free ubuntu but that sounded far too scary. Will take a look at your 7 Easy Steps again and see if they really are easy for a technotwit like me... can't imagine they can possibly be.

I think if you get a young person who understands about computers reading this, they may well follow your advice. But then they probably have more up-to-date computers anyway.

Have just read the start of your 7-Steps. You explain it really well, but it's still quite a lot of hassle and expense and I think I am better off looking for a new laptop.

Sorry, been thinking aloud here.... because for me it's a real issue - and I don't like 'computer change'. But then for anyone reading your posts, it'll be equally 'real'.

Just realized my reply has vanished. If you ever decide to purchase a new laptop you can get them now with downgrade rights to Windows 7. Very similar to Windows XP and therefore no new learning curve for you.

Thank you for taking the time to read my posts. :)

Looks great! I have an old laptop with XP, don't use it anymore, wonder why? I never heard of ubuntu, will have to take a closer look. Thank for the info.

Your very welcome.

Good luck with this. Keep us updated.
