How do you create an 'onclick' button with script?

Does anyone know how to create a button or any image that has the onlcick' code with activated script?
I got the first part right on the Thrive Themes buider.
I'm just wondering if the code would be different if using a different lander or creating a html via notepad because the code is confusing on the image it has been done.

I opened the ' inspect' feature where you can view the source code etc.
it is very confusing im not sure where to the put the 'onclick code' also the does the script go in the same area as well because that was activated by placing in the between opening and closing header tags on.
