All that stuff that makes the website look cool

At this moment my website laptop-comparison.com looks very bland with only white background and writing in black. But I saw so many cool websites here, where there were black backgrounds, search options, different backgrounds with pictures used to make the website look so cool. I am wondering when I am going to learn all that as well. Hopefully in the coming lessons or may have to teach myself.
Any recommendations on how to make the website look cool with all these add on's.
As far as success is concerned I am happy to have created my own website, written content on it and also got encouraging feedback. Need to do a lot more on content though. Have got ideas for lot of other niches but waiting to see how this goes and make some money before getting in to more of it.
