A Day in the life of a Medical Technologist
What is a Medical Technologist?
Medical technologists, also known as clinical laboratory technologists, perform and analyze the results of complex scientific tests on blood and bodily fluids. These highly trained professionals work in hospitals and independent laboratories using sophisticated procedures and equipment.
A medical technologist is actually a hidden profession that saves lives. Do you know that more than 80 percent of clinical decisions are made from laboratory tests results alone? That is a very staggering figure. Physicians and other health care providers depend heavily on the laboratory to guide them in making clinical decisions applicable to your health continuously.
We as medical laboratory technologists remain behind the scenes, working tirelessly to produce round the clock, quality results that directly improves patient outcomes.
To be a medical technologist, you must love what you do. It takes a special caliber of person to be a medical technologist.
We, many times are forgotten; we do not receive praise and accolades for the work that we do but still we love what we do. Every year in April, we celebrate our profession with pride and we pat ourselves on the back for being an integral part of the health care team, working unnoticed to improve the lives and health of people everywhere.
