Flabbergasted

Here is something I have just read, and it really reinforces that we should be testing everything we sell or offer to our readers. Please read on.

“I (a tech from review geek) noticed something strange over on Amazon the other day. Dozens of five-star listings for 16 terabyte portable SSD drives. For $100 or less. That was pretty shocking. I know of only one 8 TB portable SSD drive on the market right now, and it’s over $2,000. How could a company possibly release a better hard drive for a fraction of the price?

I had to know. So I bought one. And tested it. And even took it apart. And you’ll be shocked to find out this is a scam. A really terrible scam. That reveals a big flaw with Amazon’s ratings.”

Source; Review Geek.

While I can’t establish the authenticity of this article I would be very surprised if it was done with malicious intent as this site is well known and trusted by many.

Here is the link to follow for further reading about this, but needless to say it does scream out one thing.

First the link…https://www.reviewgeek.com/142...

Now the moral, sorry it’s the teacher in me..lol.

So what’s the moral, “ Check everything” If we as marketers had recommended this product our reputation and our business would suffer.
We should check everything, no matter where it comes from. We can’t test everything, but if it looks too good to be true…follow the old adage.

Its 🛌 for me.
Zzzzzzz.

If your research starts and stops at Amazon you're in for demise. I look at top industry blogs and news sites mostly for product review research if i can't buy 100+ products a year to get 100+ posts I am human. Buyer feedback is for sale and very cheap even of Fiverr. If you can get 1000 sales buying 80 Good reviews etc... You can make a fortune as a scammer or at least a disreputable seller (aka politically correct version of SCAMMER).

I can't disagree with you here Steveoi!

Many things are never as advertised on the tin!!

Although it's impossible (well, unless we have VERY deep pockets) to buy everything we wish to review, due diligence is needed at all times my friend!

I would wish you some happy zzz's buddy, but you are probably up again by now, so have a fantastic day!!

ZZZZZ land was good and did not want to leave the land of Snores, but WA prevailed.

Stevoi.

Good to hear my friend!

Stephen, my son buys a lot from Amazon
And for that he often receives a lot of free gifts

One day they ask him to give a lot of reviews for things that he has never bought
Why?

To get more free gifts.
He refused and told them that it was unethical, immoral and not in line with his beliefs

So, I am NOT surprised by your discovery :)

I have a code your son can use if he wants to buy from Amazon, hehe. lol.
And Im not surprised your son refused as he has a great role model to guide him.
Well done Mum.
Are you back at WA full time or is the nursing gig still a 'goer".
I feel like a challenge is on the cards...it's been too long.
Stevo.

Good stuff!
Straight to the point, just like his mom.
Well done, mama!

Oh, thank you, Muslimah 😊

Lol. Oh Stephen I really miss you
Aren't we due for a chat? 🤔
Aren't you supposed to tell me your availability?
🤔
I've been off Uni for 6 weeks. Will be starting back this Thursday
Are YOU still busy?

Hello Zoopie,

Thanks very much for the informative important post!

I would happen to agree that before doing a review for anything, I would be inclined to have first hand usage of it.

I too would be worried about reputation for something that may not perform well, regardless of any other ratings on the internet.

I have to say I would be interested to know exactly what the conclusion was when you tested the SSD drive product and pulled it apart!

Kind regards
Erica

Many thanks Erica.
It wasn't me who pulled the thing apart, it was the tevh from Review geek. However, I read the article further and the result was not good.
Stephen.

Oh I see, I am not familiar with Review Geek!

I guess that could be left to speculation being a review in itself.

I have seen a lot of negative reviews for some things, that may not necessarily give fair reviews even when they have no experience in that particular industry.

But I guess if he is a tech and actually pulled it apart.

I just think people need to be careful what they publish to be facts or not.

Because there is such a thing as deformation of character.

Kind regards
Erica

Like they say, if your gut says it feels not right, go with your gut feeling. I personally research everything,

With my Organic skincare blog, I will make notice of products I have tried which work or doesn't work, as well as recommendations from others to myself, seek the travel size items when trying new products.

For electronics, choose name brands with the copyright symbol, and check the company website

Your "gut" decision is quite often the correct one. I remember reading something about gut decisions which led me to look this up.....

"There are two over-arching kinds of decision-making. One requires research and careful thought as to probable outcomes. The other simply goes with the gut.

It may make sense to stick with the latter in matters of the heart, but a number of recent scientific studies show that in business, the inner voice working in concert with cold, hard information could lead to better decision making."

So the gut certainly can be beneficial...
Stephen
