Anyone recovering from the June Google Update?

Hey, so anyone who may have seen a drastic decline in traffic from the Google update in June, has anyone seen any positive movement to recovery? I'm especially interested to find out about sites that are in the MMO niche.

I personally think Google are making it harder to rank these sites because they are referred to YMYL sites or Your Money or Your Life. If it's a website that can effect peoples wealth and livelihood, it is getting harder to rank. I heard it's even harder if you run a health related website.

My MMO site was going along nicely until the June update, my organic reach has been cut by 70%. What's even more frustrating is that before I could publish a piece of content and it would index straight away and rank around page 4/5 sometimes even 2. Now, I still get indexed but cannot find my posts within the first 100 results.

There is a silver lining though, luckily I also run a niche related website that is monetized mainly through Amazon. I had left this sit because the commission from Amazon was so low, recently I had sales worth around $1000 and my overall commission was $30.

However, I started working on this site again and my last four posts have been indexed, 3 of them ranking on the second page and one on the first page and one of my main posts that is targeting a high-volume keyword is hovering between 2/3.

I haven't given up on my MMO site but going forward I will concentrate more on my niche website.

I would like to know how others who have been hit by the June update are moving forward.

I am a Certified Personal Trainer, Nutritionist, and a Specialist in Exercise Therapy. I went to school at an internationally recognized school. Being an expert in my health related field, I welcomed the changes Google implemented.

I get tired of competing with people who paid $99 online and got a certificate. These people are hurting people because they do not know what they are doing.

Because of this many states now require me to have insurance just like a dentist, doctor, etc. I have $1m worth of insurance and any trainer who does not have $1m is probably a phony.

They are weeding out the un-certified wanna be experts that can only get business by impersonating an expert. Google smarter than people think.

Yeah, I agree with you, it's a good move by Google and it's good for consumers. It's just so frustrating, I really thought I was on the verge of exponential traffic growth, I just wish I had a lot more traffic, so when it hit, it wouldn't have hurt so much. I look at my stats now, and I wish they had just given me a penalty and completely deindexed my site because that's how bad the traffic had gotten now.

All the best

Google still too powerful. I would like to see maybe 4 search engines with 25% of searches each. Google, Bing, Yahoo, and whomever else there is. Then we would be on top of a gold mine.

Have a great weekend.

The worst, and most common thing you can do is stop producing when you see a decline. That will ensure that you never recover, but it is the natural reaction most people have when the wind is sucked from their sales.

The reality is, Google is after the best content and with every update they make their hopes is to get closer to that. If you are creating great content that is getting engagement, you have nothing to worry about over the long term.

Keep producing, keep focused, and even though you may have seen a dip and it is still there, you will prevail through the arc of time. I have seen MANY people start to bounce back from this and are better than ever. ;)

Thanks for that little boost, Kyle. You're so right!

I've been seeing a decline over several months and I came to know it was my theme. There was a lot of work involved in figuring that out but I changed it around the same time as the Google update and saw the bad dip, from both the change and the update.

Obviously, I felt like giving up but I kept going. Now, I'm seeing an improvement again and I'm crossing my fingers that it will only get better and better. It's slower than what I would have hoped because it's been over a month since I've been trying to get back up but it's slowly happening.

Hello Minaj. Thanks for sharing.

My website has gone through a rough patch, one because of the June Google Update and the other because my theme was REALLY bad for SEO, as in, my page speed was REALLY low, especially for mobile.

Once I changed my theme (that was around the same time as the Google Update), my traffic took a nosedive of 50 - 70% as well. It took more than a month of consistent post publishing to see any improvement.

Now, I would say about half of what I'm publishing is on the first page of Google, Bing and Yahoo. I write about 2000 words per post and I publish every single day.

I took a snapshot of my traffic from April 2019 until now. You'll see how I was getting over 200 visitors a day to just around 50 and how it is now improving and going into the 100's (like the past monday).

The traffic coming in from Google that day was 74 so as you can see, just about 75% of the traffic is coming from there. I really think it has to do with a more efficient and faster theme and also due to regular posting.

I've been getting some nice numbers of referrals this month, sometimes even upto 4 referrals per day, but have yet to see a sale. I'm sure with the improvements that I've seen, that it will be happening soon. I'm gonna keep going!

I hope my report helps!

Oh and I forgot to mention; I have 300 posts on my website. I also got 37 referrals so far this month. I'm not where I want to be with that many posts but it is a comeback and a LOT better than last month where I only had 9 referrals. So patience and hard work will pay off!

Glad you are recovering, the thing with me is that content writing has always been my Achilles heel. It takes me a week to write up a solid piece of content and then at least a couple of hours to publish it on my site.
If I had the budget, I would definitely take the PPC route over SEO. Luckily my niche site is doing much better, if only Amazon paid better than 3% commission in the category I am in, I would have been happier. Still better than nothing, so can't complain.

Thanks, Minaj.

What do you usually write about? Do you do reviews or how-to posts? I do lots and lots of reviews and they rank very fast and they really bring in a lot of referrals.

If you're doing a lot more how to posts, try doing more reviews instead. I'm sure you will experience an improvement.

How I write my posts is I break them into general sections (like 4 - 5 headings). I add bullet points under each of the things that I want to discuss and elaborate on.

Then I use those bullet points in my sentences and elaborate. This all takes me 2 - 3 hours until I publish. Try it this way to see if it saves you some time.

You're right. 3% is better than nothing. I'm happy that your niche site is doing better.

It used to be a mixture of reviews and listicles, like top ten Shopify apps, best FBA courses etc sometimes I used to write a how-to article as well. I'll probably post an article a month on that site from now on, I think its more beneficial for me if I work on my niche site that is actually showing signs of growth.

No worries! You do what you feel is best for you.

I know you said you would focus on your niche site, but hard work does pay off and I've got proof!

I didn't have anybody go premium at all this month or for the last two months, but I just got one 2 hours ago! If I had given up at the Google update, I wouldn't have seen this sale today.

Just a little something to show you that there is still hope! I hope you don't let your bootcamp site go down.

Congrats, hope it continues for you, I'm not abandoning my mmo site, it's just not going to be my main focus.

all the best.

I had a drop in June, but I’ve recovered and now I’m hitting all time highs. Don’t give up. Optimize.
