Whenever I send my website url to someone in a LinkedIn message (not a post), this "anonymous image" (see image below) shows up in the link instead of my website homepage image

UPDATE: Hello everyone. Thank you for the input. I found out the reason I keep getting this anonymous image when I MESSAGE someone (not post) in LinkedIn is because my site image is too small. For LinkedIn, an image needs to be at least 1200 pixels.

Thanks again, everyone.

Glad you have resolved this, Yvette. Thanks for getting back to us with the solution you found. Using the correct minimum image size for LinkedIn, or any social site, is important. ~Jude

I see Trish has answered your question.

Another way to make sure the image shows in social media shares, without the use of additional plugins, is to ensure that the image is included and selected in the All in One SEO settings under the post editor box in WP.

Before publishing, scroll down to the All in One SEO settings, select the Social Settings tab. If the image is not showing, you can upload it there.

See Screenshot. ~Jude

Thank you very much. It's not the social media share specifically that was giving me problems. It's only when I send my link in a LinkedIn message. But I found out what my problem was. Thank you.

Hey Yvette,

The following tutorial may offer you the help you seek: Hope you find this helpful.

Thank you so much, Trish. My problem is when I send LinkedIn messages to people (much like Messenger messages in Facebook). My post images are fine. Thanks, again, I truly appreciate your help :)

This plugin works for all social media. Though I am confused as to why your post works fine in Facebook but not LinkedIn's messaging.

I don't know why either. When I send Facebook Messaging messages, it looks fine there as well. I do know that in the All in One SEO plugin, there is no way to connect LinkedIn there. There is a space for Facebook and Twitter though. I'm thinking that may have something to do with this as well. Not sure.

Ahhhh... well, the plugin I show how to use just might work for you then after all, huh.

The plugin called Facebook thumbnail does not have you list any social media account.

Now you're making me wonder if that truly IS the better plugin. Thanks!

Hmmm....I'll check this out. Thank you :)

If you DO decide to give it a try, please let me know the outcome?

I will definitely let you know :)

Okay, I double checked my social meta, and you need to change your default image. When it can't decide what preview to show, it shows the default, which is that fun anonymous image until you change it.

Oh ok. I see where I can change the default image. Should I also upload an image where it says "Default OG Image" ? To confirm, this is not having to do with a post image right? Because my post images are fine. I'm just having a problem when sending LinkedIn messages and not having a website image.

Yes, upload the image there. Right above that is two other options. I use my first attached image for my first choice of image in the first line but you can choose a different option. Then check use default image if no image available.

These settings are only used if you don't set up a specific image for a post. I like using my first image, so that's what it uses. But if for whatever reason it can't display that, I get the default image.

Check what you have set up in the 'home' image too, just to be sure it's not anonymous too.

Thank you for this information. Unfortunately, this did not solve my issue with my LinkedIn message.I still received the anonymous image. Thank you, once again, for your time and assistance :)

Wow, LinkedIn is a pain. Ah, well. We tried. 🤷 Sorry it didn't work!

That's okay :)) Thank you so much for your help. At least when I POST on LinkedIn, that part is just fine. Have a great day / night.

For something like this Yvette, I look at theme support, LI help desk, and plugins with support as a last resort!

Thanks Mike. I'll definitely check my theme support, etc. After looking at the back office, I am wondering if there is a way to even connect LinkedIn to our sites. In the Social Meta section of the All in One SEO plugin, I see Facebook and Twitter, but no LinkedIn section. That may be the issue (?)

Thanks, again, Mike. I appreciate it.

I sincerely hope it helps Yvette!

:))

You need to go to your all in one SEO in your dashboard
click on feature manager and then select social meta, click the activate button

Go to the bottom of your post and you will see a new tab called

social settings

Click on this and you will see a social meta section
You can select an image for you post that will appear when you post your link on social media

Select and image from the list that is shown there, which are images from your media library or you can upload a new one

Once you have selected the image update your post

Wait a while about 20 mins for the update to sync with your post before posting your link to social media

The image you have selected will appear with the post every time you post a URL to social media

Hope this helps

Barry

This is how I fixed mine too. You have to do this with each post.

It's not a post that I'm doing...it's sending a person a Linkedin message...much like Messenger in Facebook.

My post images are fine. I'm seeing this "anonymous image" when I send my clients a LinkedIn message.

Then it must be your gravata image that need to be updated

That's just odd. I have a gravatar image that seems to working fine and it shows up when I give comments.

I just can't get my website image to show up when I send LinkedIn messages. My website image shows up fine when I send Facebook Messenger messages.

Must be an issue with linked in then

It may be. Thanks for your help.

No, what you're doing is the same thing. You're basically 'sharing' your website, only you're doing it through LinkedIn message, so seriously, follow the social meta settings for your website and check. It has nothing to do with gravatar. It's a website preview.

I think you'll find this under the logo settings - and there are two. Look under appearance / customise then in my theme it's under "Site identity". You can add a logo there and also a site icon (usually your logo as well). This should fix your problem if I've understood it correctly. For more specific instructions on logos etc just type in the query at the top of the page and various training will come up. If you don't have a logo search for Canva and the tutorials on using that free tool.

Hope this helps

Mike

Thank you so much, Mike. I really appreciate it. I did put a logo in my theme's customize area and resent the message and still that "anonymous image" popped up. I do appreciate you getting back with me.

Thanks again.

Sorry my tip didn't work. @Bazboy247 seems to be onto the right track with this. Glad you asked the question as I didn't know that aspect of All in One SEO, so we all learn.

I think this is referring to a post - not a message like I'm sending to clients.

Click on Users in WordPress then edit your profile you will fine a avatar upload section around the middle of the page.

Are you referring to my gravatar profile picture? If so, I already have a picture uploaded there. Is the avatar you're referring to having to do with my website image?

Weird if it did not change. Yes, The gravatar profile picture.

Log out of WordPress then log back in sometimes this will fix the issue.

If it doesn't in your web browser try this force refresh your page:

I know this works with google chrome browser and should with others also.

With PC: press and hold CTRL button and click the web browser refresh page button.

With MAC: press and hold Command button and click the web browser refresh page button.
(I'm mainly a PC guy )

Check your All-in-One SEO settings. They have a feature called Robots.txt. If this function is activated, then the robots feature could be blocking or interfering with the google web crawler bots. If it is turned on, then you could just turn this feature off and then re-send the sitemap to google console.

You know i am still learning but wouldn't
you want Google to pick out the errors?
Or is it an true error?

Yes, you would typically want google to pick out the errors, unless you really know what you want to block specifically. The purpose of the robots.txt text file is to tell web robots (like search engines) which pages on your site to crawl. It also should tell them which pages not to crawl. It is mainly for more complex ways of blocking a web crawler's access to a specific image folder on your website, a specific file, or sensitive information on your website. We can usually just check the "no index" and "no "crawl" boxes for the pages we don't want to show and be just fine with that. You typically want these checked on privacy policy, affiliate disclaimers, category pages, a "recommended" tools page or any other page that will have duplicate text from somewhere else. Whether it's on your site or on another person's site, it's better if google does not see it if it is duplicated somewhere else.

Thank you so much for this. I have learned a great deal reading through what you've written. I appreciate the total explanation of this. Once again, thank you.

Thank you. I don't have wordfence on my site. I think I have a great amount of information to work with in this thread so, I think I'll be fine navigating through this problem - I hope :) Have a great day/evening.

Yvette,
I have gotten these when I have not checked one of the boxes
for a No-Index post, such as a Privacy Policy or Custom Menu
Heading.
There is nothing to fix unless you want these indexed which in
my case I do not LOL - Just click on the Fix Coverage Issues
so you can make sure this is what Google is talking about and
then forget about it.

If it is not about the above then you will need to find out which
page/post they are referring to and that will come up when you
click on the Fix Coverage Issues - then you can take it from
there doing what needs to be done.

Susie, thank you so very much. I truly appreciate your explanation and input. Have a great day / evening.

I've never seen this before; I will be interested in the answer.

I have certainly learned a lot with this. Great information here for sure!

You may have something in your robots.txt file that's causing an issue. Are you using All in One SEO? If so, log into your site dashboard and navigate to All in One SEO > Robots.txt and take a look at the entries there.

I do have the All in One SEO. I will take a look there. Thank you very much for stopping by for the great comment.

Any time.

Judging what I just read in googles documentation about robots.txt what Gordon mentioned is the simplest explanation but not the only possibility.

Thank you for that. I appreciate it.

What? I will be watching the answers you receive.

There is some very informative replies here for sure! I'm learning a lot.

I will let you know how all this turns out. Thanks for stopping by.

Better ask site suport to fix this for you...

Thank you very much, Fleeky.

Have you no-indexed or no-followed tags or categories?

I don't have any tags. I do have categories, but not aware of any of them being no-indexed for no-followed. Thank you for stopping by.

I also saw the notice that this needed to be updated, but I am unsure what it is. I assumed that it must not be something I use, but you getting notified that you are not generating enough sales for the API makes me wonder. Maybe you signed up for this additional API thing, but aren't using it. If so you are probably just a regular Amazon Associate (where you make your sales) and don't need the API thing. Which would answer our questions about what it is enough to know we don't need it.

Hi Yvette

I read your comments with interest, because I have a related question, which I'm not sure if I should contact Amazon or ask in the wider WA field.

Like a lot of people I'm sure, I've just been notified If you have been using Amazon’s Product Advertising API (PA API), you must upgrade all of your applications making calls to PA API 4.0 to Amazon’s Product Advertising API version 5.0 (PA API 5.0) by March 9, 2020.

Do I need to upgrade - I have both UK and US accounts which when click on Link type performance show I am getting orders through AP-API, as well as other text, banner, native ads, but don't ever recall setting up.

I've tried reading through Amazon info on it but a little unclear.
Is this just me, or are other people struggling ?

I would welcome any feedback.

Thanks
Mark

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

I was an Amazon affiliate, thinking about rejoining, I really didn't stay on the program very long to make any sales. I have a wixsite, do I need to set up an ecommerce store too?

I'm not sure of the answer to your question. I would suggest you throw it out to the community. Go to your profile then "Questions". Someone, I'm sure, will answer it.

Wishing you the best.

Hey Yvette. Since amazon reinstated your account be sure and check your affiliate link numbers and make sure they are the same ones you had before. If they changed your numbers you will have to go back and change all of your links or you won’t get credit for your sales. Sorry I don’t trust amazon very much. Good luck. Michael.

Thanks for that. The reinstatement happened several months ago. I caught it quickly and called them so they reinstated my account with my same link codes. I didn't have to worry about changing my links - thank goodness.

Yvette

Hello everyone...I just wanted to let you know that for whatever reason, I checked my links again tonight and everything is fine on my Facebook page. The links go directly to my website like they should and I am not getting anymore errors. Whew! Glad that's over!

Thanks for the help everyone.

Yvette

I am so glad you FB has fixed the issue. I hope that doesn’t happen again. I know how frustrating it can be.

You got it sorted thats all the matters hunni. :)) Way to go girl :))

Thanks, Debs! :))

I don't use Facebook that much, but Trish offers a good solution.

Thanks for that. My page is only connected to two social media sites - Facebook and Google+ (not Twitter). But thanks for stopping by. I appreciate it.

Have an awesome day/evening and weekend.

Hey Yvette,

My first question to you is: "What are you using for a Twitter card?" ...as that is where I would look for the cause of your problem.

Now more questions:
1.) Have you set a featured image?
2.) Did you setup your Twitter card properly?
3.) Have you tied another social media (like Google+) to see if your post displays properly there?

Hope you find this helpful.

Thanks for getting back with me. My site is linked to two social media platforms, but not Twitter. It's linked to Facebook and Google+

My links come up correctly and pages look fine through Google+ So the problem is only happening through Facebook. With that information, any ideas?

Using Facebook's own debug for this post, MIGHT offer you some insight as to how to fix this issue: https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/og/object/

Please, do let me know if this helps you fix this issue.

I pray this isn't a spamming problem Yvette!

Mike, if this is a spamming issue - what then?

A matter of weighing all replies and reporting to Site Support as necessary Yvette!

Okay thanks, Mike.

I think, it is html format.
Your link doesn't open properly!
Refresh and try again.

I see this sometimes too, when my internet is very slow. But after refreshing and with better internet it works properly again.

Aloha, Jenna

Thanks, Jenna, for getting back with me. I have tried several times now with no success. My articles keep coming up like that. :(

Grrrr!
Wish, you can resolve that issue asap!
Aloha, Jenna

Thanks, Jenna.

What happened to the links in facebook connected to my site?

I have had a Facebook page for my site for quite some time now. I have always been able to post links on my Facebook page that would take my visitors right to my website articl

UPDATE: I wanted to follow up with everyone about this situation. For specific details, please read what I wrote here: Thank you,

As for other articles that are yet to get indexed, don't bother fetching anything. Just continue with the building of your blog and all that will be taken care of with time. Thanks for asking!

Thanks for that. Much appreciated.

Great! I am so glad to have helped. Thanks for letting me know.

After the new search console, I use this method:
First I fetch, both desktop and mobile, in the old one. And the went to the new one (just because I am secure when I do it this way, and put the link in the URL inspection. It takes some time. If it comes green, it has been indexed.

Oh great! Thank you for the info.

Welcome to the club! I know just how ya feel

I see I'm not alone :)

Actually, as long you have submitted your sitemap, Google does everything automatically.

Thank you for the comment. Yes, I have submitted my site map.

In Google, in the search box, if you type in site:yourdomain.com it will give you a list of your indexed URLs.

Thank you James, for the info. Will do.

I found this to be more convenient than trying to understand what the fetch results produce, Yvette.

Ok. It's good to know I'm not the only one finding the fetch results confusing.

Good stuff James.JB

Cheers, Deborah :)
