Using Site Comments and Feedback Tool

Just had to reject 2 of 5 comments from the site comments which makes 4 of 10 in 2 days.

The problem is not that I am difficult but in the fact people are obviously not reading up on how to use the tool or are in one case a bit confused on what is a comment and what is feed back so here is a bit of a refresher.

In 3 of the rejections the comments were either vague or did not address the post.

The one comment addressed an advertisement in the post for Wealthy Affiliate and the post itself had nothing to do with WA. Still there were alomost 80 words of comment on Wealthy Affiliate and 0 words about my post beyond copying the headline.

Another was so vague you could only get that they had read the headline and only knew the post offered some type of tips. It made no mention of anything deeper in the post.

Another offered just general information on affiliate marketing that was unrelated to the post itself. Needless to say I gave all 3 some feedback to help make better comments in the future.

Feedback instead of a comment.

The 4th rejection in the last 24 hours came as a member offered some great constructive critisizm from a college educated perfectionist writer's perspective. He did mention a few things in my post he liked, and a few he didn't agree with, but mostly he disagreed with the presentation as it was my way not his and fit my readers not his. We learn from these things but I requested comments and questions not a break down of what font choices and punctuation issues were needed.

When choosing to comment or offer feedback make sure which one of the tabs you are on because the feedback was very helpful had that been what I was looking for but it really wouldn;t have forwarded the conversation as a comment. When offering comments I will make sure not to criticise the site structure, fon'ts, punctuation etc.. because it really makes one look like a barbaric troll to the public that deals with those folks all the time. You know, the classic grammar nazi trolls people dislike.

How to leave a proper comment.

When possible use the authors name to address them and then point to a couple items you liked or disliked about the post. Be infomrative and in depth and helpful. Make sure your post is a continuance of the conversation. Briefly summarize the post as you read it and ask any questions you may have.

By doing this you will brand yourself as a genuine caring person with some interest in the article and some knowledge in the topic. This is huge when it comes to commenting blogs in your niche where people will recognize you on your blog if they land there later. You will also not get a bad reputation as someone who only cares about earning the credits and will not have other members mad at you for wasting their time and resources.

I try to work as much as I can with comments that have some minor tweaks needed to become worth keeping and love to offer helpful hints but what I dislike is having to tell you to leave comments like the ones you wish to get. It's all any of us can ask.

Thanks for the clarifying information. Good commenting is a skill I need to develop.

This is really important information that taught me something.
Thank you for such a helpful post, Andy!

Glad to see you back Andy!
Guilty. The first time I left comments, I confused it with feedback. After I realized, now I leave the best comments I can.:) Paula

I think this is just a case of misunderstanding of want a 'comment' is. I asked for comments and like you, got a page long criticism of how I had formulated my sentences and a suggestion that I should remove something from my post, because the commenter, didn't agree with what I had written! She then proceeded to demand I did the same for her website. I then explained what site comments actually were and kindly left her a comment on her website, to illustrate what it meant.

Maybe do a training on it? Lets educate and work as a team to all benefit from our knowledge as a whole.

thanks for raising a valuable issue : )

Well said, Andy.
Site Comments and Site Feedback are great tools if they're properly understood and utilized, but despite the many blog posts that have been put out similar to this over the past few months, people are still getting it wrong.
Not only in respect of confusing comments with feedback as you say, but the actual subject matter of the post submitted for commenting.
I submitted a post about affiliate marketing last week and got lots of comments about how wonderful Wealthy Affiliate is.
I totally agree with that, and those comments would have been great on my Wealthy Affiliate review post, but not necessarily on the post I was actually requesting the comments on.
Hopefully things will get better.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and hopefully this post will be widely read and it's message remembered.
Oh, and by the way.....it's "fonts" not "fon'ts"!
Just had to slip that one in! :-0)
Cheers
Rich :-)

This has been an ongoing issue for some time now
I wrote about it months ago.
I actually stopped using site comments for the last six months because of all the bad comments. However, i'm willing to give it another shot so will be back giving and asking for comments soon.
I believe that if we all refuse to accept bad comments it will nut out those just using it for a quick dollar. Jim

Hi Andy, I agree with you, I hate to turn down a comment, I feel so bad for the person commenting. Someone asked me once if I would have accepted the comment if it was organic, and my response, is we are using the commenting platform here knowing that they are not organic, and that there are very clear guidelines on how to comment. It does take new people some time to understand the difference between the comments and site feedback. Have a great day.

I haven't had too many problems with comments like some others but I have not asked for a lot.
I did ask for website feedback and all I got was a comment about great site and did not offer any feedback at all.
I have been hesitant to use feedback since then or comments since so many have had issues with that.

Only the last few days have I had issues, normally I get awesome comments like the other 7 of 11 in the last 2 days

Hi Andy,

Yeah it happens, I feel your frustration. I will say though that my experience with site comments has been improving, maybe it's the time of day, I don't know. Not so much with site feedback though.

I don't buy credits, I try to make the best use of the tool as I can. I think using it that way helps others as well.

All we can do is educate those that need it, and keep going.

Cheers,

Michael

I buy credits occasionally but earn far more than I buy. One thing I will not do is leave a comment that isn't helpful to the author paying for the credit either in cash or labor. The thing I get aggravated over is I hate having to turn people down and tell them their contribution wasn't up to par as most didn't know there was a proper way of doing comments. That's why I thought this post was vital.

I get wanting to help others, yet at the same time, you don't want to do it at the sacrifice of your own post. It looks bad having off topic comments. And, there are so many that need further insights on how to leave useful comments.

I don't like turning them down either, but it's a training moment for them. They can't do better if they aren't told what they are doing wrong.

Thank you for sharing.
