There is no cure for empty pockets but how empty are they?

I am reminded of two things when I am broke. The first is the Joe Diffie song, that goes, " If the Devil Danced in Empty Pockets he'd have a ball in mine". The second is a story I often tell here Jim Rohn and the Teacher.

Jim Rohn was in college and was raging in class one day about how all the things he wanted in life were too expensive and the teacher asked Jim if the problem was that the things were expensive or just that he couldn't afford them. Jim changed his outlook on money that day and set out to afford the things he wanted in life. He is now famous for making millions by making future millionaire and will be remembered for sharing things like this from his extensive education.

So how does that apply to Wealthy Affiliate?

Jim Rohn stopped seeing price and started seeing value in that instant. He saw the value in things he wanted and the price as a negotiable term. He could simply improve his life and reach a goal, buy what he wanted and move on to the next obtainable goal. Each item added value to his life more than numbers to his bank account just as music brings most people happiness having a great sound system can open your eyes to a deeper understanding of the music you enjoy.

With Wealthy Affiliate we are often confronted with new members who shy off or even run off when they find out that the 2nd month of premium membership is $49 instead of the first month deal of $19.

Like Jim, they don't have the money so they exclaim the program is too expensive.

I did the numbers a bit ago and was seeing a mean value just under $800 a month for the tools and training Wealthy Affiliate offers. Nearly $9,600 a year for the cost of $49 a month or $359 a year. We can save in a years time up to $8900 with Premium Membership over the cost of getting these tools and this training anywhere else on the Internet.

We get more value in WA Membership than that though in terms of stress relief, network building, personal support, training in work skills like the Local SEO training that has me starting a new business this year that could [pay me $15,000 a month or more in just a few years time.

I have paid in 5 years over $1700 to Kyle and Carson and Made well lover $10,000 and saved over $40,000 the way I see it just on hard cost and real world earnings. I couldn't afford not to do this because the things I have accomplished here in terms of therapy since my breakdown are simply irreplaceable. Fact is I over paid my mental health providers and have drastically under paid Kyle and Carson because the real healing from my nervous breakdown has been here at WA.

Time to talk about covering cost though, remember they are broke but for many that is a temporary and easily fixed problem.

The options are 1. Stay a free member and work really hard to earn your way to Premium Membership, and 2. Change your spending habits to make Wealthy Affiliate affordable. Sometimes it's a bit of both but for the most part number 2 is the fastest path to changing their lives for the better.

In my case the $19 was a stretch. At the time I was sure of the value of WA I had just $21.32 to my Pay-Pal account and had to put my auto-responder on hold to afford a month of membership. What I found inside was astonishing. A wealth of knowledge and community I knew was impossible to live without so I set a goal to get just 2 Premium Referrals over the next 30 days while I was hitting the training.

I reached my goal and had to pay all of $1.50 I think it was out-of-pocket that 2nd month. By the end of the year I was paying $359 a year out of profits. That was nearly 6 years ago and I am here for life.

Let's talk about changing spending to make the expensive affordable instead and let these folks see value over price.

If, you live in a developed country the odds are you eat outside your home at least once a month, you drink things like coffee and bottled water and even soda. You eat things like chips and other snacks, and you may smoke or drink. You Wash Laundry on the large load size even if the size is actually small, and you take long hot showers instead of conserving water.

You likely have too few CFL or LED bulbs, and have an old style toilet. Your Refrigerator and other electronics are not Energy Star rated, and you sometimes fall asleep with the radio on and leave the phone plugged in well after it reaches 100% charge. You use your laptop, phone, and tablets while plugged in for hours.

You have a lot of things you can either cut out or do better at to save money and the average person spends nearly 1/3 of their budget on these things. If, you make just $150 a week in part-time income you are able to save enough month to afford 4 WA memberships a month cutting back.

How about the car?

Some have bad tires, don't watch to make sure all four have the same and proper air pressure, don't add oil and fluids when needed, and don't get regular oil and filter changes. All of these rob gas mileage and the biggest hog is running air or heat when not needed as these run on separate Horse Power robbing systems.

Do you drive to the store a blog away for 1-2 items? Do you leave it running while you run in so the air stays cold? Are you using it to take unneeded drives? All cost money.

I have a friend in another business lives in Madagascar and lives by minimal means and yet he has followed these tips to cut out a path to invest nearly $30 a month he didn't know he had. To reach a minimum rank that allows him to start earning more money. For the first time in his life he sees hope, and he now sees value over price and wants to be more than his surroundings.

So here is the set of questions to ask before decrying the program as being too expensive.

1. Is it too expensive or is the issue that you can't afford it?

2. Is the value there to cover the price?

3. Can you save enough or work a couple extra hours to make the money?

4. Do you want excuses to be your legacy or success?

5. Are you afraid to lose money or more afraid that you simply can't succeed?

Hi, Andy Zeus Anderson.
How nice to hear from you once again.

Paul Mindra here from Southern Ontario, Canada.

May you be blessed moving into the end of a decade that continually keeps moving forward. I hope that I get blessed too.

1. good question.
2. Good question
3. Is redundant
4. Is very personal
5. Is the fear of missing out.

There really is no one single solution here.

I'm thinking...If you do not have a website, then you are actually not on the Internet and the World Wide Schemes of things.

So nice to hear from you.
I know without even thinking that things are improving.

Remain awesome.

Paul Mindra.

No money should not hinder you in looking for self a place in the sun!

One read through and many will find more money than they need in the money they waste or at least spend without long term purpose. The question is how much discomfort now is your successful future worth to you?

Excellent post Andy! Thanks for breaking it down like this.

It's not rare for us to scream ourselves hoarse over the $49 per month tag on Premium Membership and yet go on to spend the same in a day on drinks or snacks that we only take a bite or sip of and toss in the trash without missing a beat... Perception does matter...

We are Blessed.
Mark

I use to smoke 2 packs a day. At current prices, I would be spending $16 a day for Marlboro's and could have nearly made a house payment each month off smoking alone. Needless to say, because of my waste we still don't own a home, we don't own a nice car, my teeth are nearly gone etc... I now haven't smoked for 9 years and we hope to be in a nicer car soon.

You paint quite a vivid picture with that example Andy. Thankfully those days are way behind. Wishing you all the best with your business, and that nicer car by mid-2020 :)

We are Blessed.

excellent post to kick of 2020

investing in yourself is so crucial to success.

you u start making a ROI its so worth it.

Yeah if I let getting down to $1.50 scare me off I could have missed out on thousands in profits and many thousands in cost and education. I was just told the best hosting cost only $84 as a year, mostly because it comes with a free domain name for that single site with unlimited subdomains. I own my own hosting reseller from one of the biggest hosting providers in the world and our best packages are nothing compared to the value of WA which is why we charge even less than this guy's $84 despite offering more.

The security suite is superior here, the managed backups is an add on with us that is $35 a month just to cover paying the techs and leave $1 a month in profit. We have a speed suite here that is not available elsewhere, and we get Kraken Enterprise image compression and it's a good $100 a year value stand alone. I haven't checked their pricing but in terms of value that is what I would expect to pay.

Our best package comes with unlimited domain names with 1 free for the first year but it cost over $20 a month paid by the year so it's nearly the cost of an annual membership at WA. This is why I tell people looking to get the best premium hosting either pony up for a managed server or go to WA because the smaller packages over time add up to lost value over what they could get for the prices. Sounds like I am cutting my own throat but I do honest business.

Great post Andy to kick off the New Year. Absolutely agree that we need to focus on the value add of the WA membership, not the price. We are all budding entrepreneurs and businesspeople that need to invest if we are to be successful.

For me, I see the Premium membership as a necessary cost of doing business, however the bonus is that you get more back from the training and the WA community than what you put in. I chose the annual subscription specifically to ensure that I kept myself hungry (metaphorically) enough to stay focused and see a return on my investment (ROI).

Like you Andy, I'm not going anywhere and I'll see this thing through. In the immortal words of one of my heroes, Winston Churchill:

"The pessimist sees difficulty in every opportunity. The optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty."

~ Randall

Yes I fear too many miss a golden opportunity because they don't see things in terms of value over price. It seems to a be repetitive storyline over the past 17 years as of Friday.
