The WA Difference from 17 Year Affiliate Veteran
Hey folks I won't take too much time here, just a few lines to tell you why I stayed the past 7 years at Wealthy Affiliate and you should plan for your long-term membership.
What I am about to say will shock many and may seem contrary to the mission of recruiting WA affiliates but EVERYTHING you learn at WA you can find on YOUTUBE, except the WA Difference.
While many talks about the peer to peer and live support desk as their Hallelujah moment in deciding to upgrade or even stick around a few months us old-timer marketers who have been in the industry a few years before joining need more than just the power of community to make Wealth Affiliate of value. I found that value I was looking for 7 years ago and have been a premium and now Premium Plus member ever since because of it.
Longevity is what brings success.
Most new members seem to think I will upgrade for one month, learn everything, and make a million dollars by a month from Wednesday. BULL POOP, it can take years to gain traction and hone your craft to find true success and live your potential.
If you are looking to upgrade for the $19 special first-month offer and be done before the $49 monthly membership kicks in you are likely best served to save your $19 and striking out on a YouTube Journey. That said though I had 10 successful or at least semi-successful years in affiliate marketing before Wealthy Affiliate.
When I came in I was just a year removed from the laptop lifestyle that is afforded 2 websites with a combined of nearly 5 million monthly page views from just over 1 million unique visitors. I was rolling before my nervous breakdown and had only had one mentor ever hold my hand and say these are the things you need to grow on. His name was Corey Rudl and he died before the best information could be passed on, way too young to go.
So what in hell made me upgrade, if I knew so much?
Well, it was the formula. See I knew nearly everything I have learned here from watching videos, attending classes, and countless and sometimes expensive webinars, and dozens of ebooks. In my journey, I held the pieces of a 10,000 piece jigsaw puzzle but was amiss on which piece to place first and how to get to the cornerstone of ultimate success.
I was basically a rudderless ship getting lucky before my nervous breakdown so robbed of that luck I was stuck trying to get started again. I had forgotten so many steps of how I got where I was and was clueless on how to get where I needed to be.
Then came the Wealthy Affiliate Difference.
I was in my 3rd or 4th night as a free member and found that in all my time online people gave or sold me puzzle pieces and not the secret sauce of how to put a puzzle together. I was NEVER SCAMMED because they all sold me exactly what I bought but I didn't know how to use the information I had properly and worse yet? At times I was lazy and wanted success overnight.
I wanted instant gratification so bad I spent almost 2 years program hopping in the make money online niche and while I made some money I was finding fast money in from launch to launch was fast money out buying advertising for the next big thing in Affiliate Marketing.
Wealthy Affiliate was quick to remind my success does not come before work and that success takes time to build. They showed and are showing me a step-by-step system of building that puzzle from a well-grounded center out. No more cutting corners to make pieces fit, I have the solution at hand.
I love the people, don't get me wrong you folks ROCK THE HOUSE! But it's the formula that is worth sticking around 6 months, a year, 7 years, or a lifetime. That formula also comes with Kyle and Carson's promise to us to always get better and to develop now an ongoing system of the latest concepts in online marketing.

Sometimes I feel like I have all of those puzzle pieces, but they are in a bag and the only ones I see are the ones that I shake out. I am just starting out and I know I have to put in the work to pull out more pieces. Thank you for the analogy and the article.

Round one for me was a bag of marbles instead of Jigsaw puzzles. I acquired a big bag of Marbles so fast I ripped the bag and lost all my marbles. The Puzzle is putting me back together along with my business. Inputting in more work remember that the journey must also be enjoyed, have a bit of balance in life along with the added load you are taking on.
How kind of you to share your journey here, as I believe there are some key lessons that can save others a great deal of time and money.
I have seen many individuals program hop and spend a small fortune in doing so, hoping for the perfect process to become an overnight success. It doesn't work that way. While lightning may strike occasionally for an individual or two, that's not the norm. Most people end up with a collection of emails, pdfs and other downloads that cost a lot of money for a path leading to nowhere.
I'm happy that you found this wonderful community and shared why you have chosen to stay for so many years. As a 20+ year veteran in affiliate marketing, I've done the same thing.
Yes, if someone told me in 2004 I would know what I know now I would have said no way, I just can't fathom doing all of that. If I knew everything I do now back then my only regret would be working so hard I broke something in me. You really do need to balance life in the formula as well because as much as you are your own worst enemy in business you can do a heck of a lot of damage to your health as well. WA though is great because it helps you find balance as well as the proper path to succeed online.
That, too, is an important lesson. I know the challenge of maintaining the work/life balance, mostly because I love my job, but sometimes it makes me forget how important family life is too.
Andy, People need to read this, and then read it again, and to be sure, read it once more. Honest and very true. People are after instant gratification and are in general "blinded by the light" like in the Manfred Man song.
WA is providing us with the blueprint and all the pieces of the puzzle, including the picture of where the individual pieces fit.
I am here for the long run.

Hello Andy. Thank you for this very insightful post. Coming from a veteran like you, it is worth taking the advice and using it to our advantage. I had no expectations when I first signed up last November and I am in awe as to how much I have learned, got my business up and running - slowly but surely. Great story Andy, and very encouraging. I've been here 8 months and very anxious for some success, but every time I listen to Kyle or some training, I learn I have sooooo much still to do. Haven't earned success yet, but have committed to stay a member of WA for the rest of our days. Have a great weekend oldtimer!
