Passion, a personal story of how I found my 16 year niche.

So many have a challenge in finding their dream niche it seems. You feel overwhelmed and either try to think where you will make more money which is foolish because you won't make near as much in a niche you don't love. Or you have too many interest and can't choose just one.

I myself had a tough time 16 years, almost 17 back deciding on a niche. my problem back then was that I knew I wanted to be an affiliate marketer and the best I could be at it but I didn't know what niche. There were few examples in any of my core interest, baseball, fishing, and even management. Most sites were just doing Google Adsense because display advertising needed little though, little effort, and ranking a website or post was so much easier than today.

So I decided until I could decide I would write about my journey into affiliate marketing. I chose to learn something every day about it and share what I learned until I could see a clear path. 16 years later here I am the owner of Affiliate 3 Percent, and a 6 year member of Wealthy Affiliate still learning daily and sharing what I learn at least twice a week.

You are tasked with finding passion to write about and sometimes that passion is not what you do already. Sometimes its a new direction you wish to head. Leave no stone unturned. Your passion will find you in time.

Nice one! I too have trouble with niche selection. I love so many things in this world.
You need to try everything a little to see how it feels I think. You never know unless you go or try it out.
You may find it is the best thing you have ever done in your life.
Thanks for sharing.

Just make sure when trying them out to give them time to see if they fit well. If you can't give a year to a niche to see where you are heading you will likely spin your wheels for a decade or more.

Thanks for this Andy! It is true it can be so hard to find your niche.
That has been one of my issues... having too many to decide on and going for too many at once.

As I work on my daily activities and schedule, I can see there are only so many hours in a day and where I choose to spend those hours will count!

The thing to keep in mind is you can eventually attack more than one niche but figure you need at least 150-200 posts to really stabilize a good niche blog. That's nearly 2 years of 2 posts a week for each niche you start. Once established you can do a post a week to go forward but every niche will need at least 1 post a week. I will have at least another 6 months on my main blog before I can start to really work on a new niche but if you are beginning a two masters mentality is twice the reasons to give up too soon.

Thanks that's great advice Andy!

There is nor much that I want to write about every day. After trying several niches I think I'll stick with MMO, It's easy to come up with things to write about and there will always be people who want to know more about how they can make money online.

That was where I was stuck, MMO was a natural progression because it was what I was already researching and to return the favor by compiling my research into new post became the normalcy in my day and seeing the results a spring in my step.

Very great post

Glad you enjoyed it.

Andy,

I almost feel like this is a continuation from our "comment conversation" a moment ago.

You have definitely hit the nail on the head as far as I'm concerned.

I remember the "affiliate marketing game" from a number of years ago.

Hell, I made a very, very tidy sum from writing a shedload of articles (I'm talking 500+) of 300-400 words in length on, shall we say, a male enhancement product.

No passion, no interest in the reader, it was just a case of "show me the money". But going back 11 years now for me, it worked.

Things are very different here and now in 2020.

However, I couldn't agree with you more - if your passion isn't immediately obvious, sometimes your journey, and what you learn in the process, opens up a passion you never knew existed.

The conversation on your post fueled a memory that became this one so thank you. I also agree the thing to do in those days was to write as many short advertorials as possible to get the keywords stuffed to the max with products people were paying big dollars for. Then came the spammers and ruined the easy money of affiliate marketing. As time progressed we all had to adapt, and get smarter and along the way a 400 word post had to become 1200+ and that's when passion Waynes and people lose interest. Instead of 300-600 mediocre sales pitches, we now have to write 100-200 meaningful post in the same time constraints.
