4AM I know you all too well you seem to haunt me or perfect me. I never know if I will see you at the start or end of my day, and sometimes you are in the middle of a 2-day binge review of research for the next big post, but you are always there when something special occurs.

Magic happens for affiliate's all over the globe at 4AM.

Maybe it's because so many of us use to work shifts where our last break first alarm clock arrived around that hour. I mean many affiliates had a 2 hour commute to a factory job or office complex that had a start time of 6AM. Some of us worked in diners and stores around the globe getting things ready for the new day and had been on our feet since 10PM. You're out last sip of coffee before the hectic end of a shift.

I mean, terse times like these are one of the biggest reasons we choose to break free and accept that for us there must be something more.

Affiliates are not created out of high schoolers choosing to go to college for a chance to be one. Hell, my bet is your local campus doesn't have an affiliate marketing 101 class on it and they don't have many affiliates show up for career day and give speeches about how you can take any passion and any group of skills with or without college education and make more than some corporate job when you are in high school.

They don't because the whole of education is to teach one to work, and the act of work will teach one they needed more education.

No affiliates are not guaranteed miillionaires and many of us will fail, a whopping 85% of the people you meet here at Wealthy Affiliate are likely to be doing something else 5 years from now and that's actually a good number because other programs in the industry have as much as 12 times the failure rate.

But, of the 15% who are still affiliate marketing in 5 years, who have not gone mad for the bad days or just lost interest or hope before their success came we will destroy that JOB Salary. We have Lawyers able to make enough money to pay off a half million or more in student debt and retire 5 years earlier than planned because law, that millionaire maker of old, just doesn't have the unlimited income potential of affiliate marketing.

4AM is usually either a mid week start of my day, or a weekend stop time but my best post come because it reminds me why I am an affiliate marketer.

I could blame my broken dreams of becoming a Regional VP of Restaurant Operations, or my failed businesses in the real world, or even my nervous breakdown but I know I was chosen to be an affiliate marketer. All that hard work, lost lifespan, and wasted educational dollars was life saying here's what you write about now go be a successful affiliate marketer.

I did exactly that, 16 years ago. I had a nervous breakdown in the years sense so my bank account doesn't show it but I helped build a 3 million monthly page view business that could add hundreds of dollars of new income in 24 hours time. All we had to do was point and let others sift through the leveraged content, and bam.

I am not some moron out here telling you something I think can be done can happen for you but telling you what happened to me can happen to you and will happen to me again. I will tell you the exact steps of my discovery.

My Ancient Affiliate Secret!

I was bored with what I was doing, worse yet my body was worn out, my hands too sore to hold my youngest, and I had just pulled a 16-hour double. I was too tired to sleep. Too angry at myself for not staying in school. Too angry that what I did do in school wasn't helping much in my current job. I was close to the PC, reading the newspaper I bought 3 days earlier, and I SAW AN ADVERTISEMENT!

You as someone here looking at this half brained rant from a guy with Bi-Polar on the uphill back from a Nervous Breakdown, got here the same way you reached this blog post on Wealthy Affiliate. I SAW AN AD.

The ad I saw led me to find out more information about affiliate marketing in a round about way. The ad was about a simple one for 2003 that millions of you probably saw.

"Work from home, no cash or experience required selling other people's products. Inquire today!"

That ad had nothing to do with affiliate marketing but instead was to sell a book about EBay Consignments Selling where locals will bring items they wish to sell, you list them on EBay at a higher price, make the sale, keep the difference and charge a fee for the service once sale was made.

I didn't buy the book but it changed my life forever.

See I figured that consignments meant I needed to have a place to store the products, to take photos to put online, to create a dozen different accounts, had to have overhead for advertising and accounting, and if I was good I needed an office and staff and I was still only looking at a 6 figure potential.

I hit the internet marketing forums and classifieds sites and happened on a Hybrid called Adland Pro. I met a man there named Corey Rudl and he taught me about affiliate marketing. It answered my question I had after reading the pitch on that book and that question was simple. If I can make money off selling other peoples products maybe there is a simpler, cheaper, less labor intensive way to make money selling other people's products.

Corey Rudl owned a site called the Interent Marketing Center where he made millions just teaching other Affiliates how to be affiliates and make millions like he had. Corey was under 25 and a multi-millionaire. He was full of information, a walking library of how to meet people and walk them through product demos, or help them find articles and information to learn about the products you represented online.

He had me hooked when he said there is no reason to ever pay for the right to sell another man's products for him.

He said there were tens of thousands of companies trying a new system of product promotion called affiliate marketing. The companies would make a set of product images, product information, and a specially coded link available and you would find people interested in products like theirs, show them the offer, and that's it. If you did well the people would buy the product and you would get paid.

No, inventory, no office, no hired help, no special skills, no out-of-pocket cost, no buying anything except hosting for a website or blog, and maybe a little advertising until your following got kicked off good.

Flash forward tom 2019 and there are millions of companies offering over 500 million different products to affiliates and paying better commissions than at any time in the past decade and a half. They are fighting for affiliates to promote their products. They want us working for their stores not their competitors so they give us more access, better tools, often send free or loaned samples to review, and pay bonuses and more for reaching sales goals.

In 2019, you can even make money sending people to a cost per action offer called CPA where the person gives the company their name or phone number and you get paid even if a sales has yet to happen.

Tell me you can't make money doing this affiliate marketing thing?

No serious, we all can and as I said there are millions of companies projected to soon be 900 million companies online who need affiliates and less than a billion of us already doing this. It all begins with getting people to read about products on a branded hosted blog page. The people you get to read are your traffic, and the more of it you have the better your odds of making a lot of money in affiliate marketing.

You get more traffic by writing more post about the things these people are interested in. By writing about the things people are looking for they soon find your site on Google and come in slow at first but as you add new pages it can become a Tsunami of traffic to these products.

What products are you selling?

Well that depends on what your site is about and what you love doing is what I suggest for that niche. My own sites I am working on are based on training affiliates, retiring early, and baseball. I can find 5,000 plus products for sale through affiliate programs related to each of these 3 passion projects and I don't care if you have a foot fetish or like cataloging the Kings, Queens, and Presidents of the world you can make money in any freaking niche.
