Jeff

Hi Ioana,

Long time no see.

The concept of duplicate content is typically misunderstood.

Basically, you can have multiple copies of the SAME article all ranking on page one of Google.

What Google typically does is form a hierarchy based on date published.

So, if the same article is ranked twice on page one of Google, then the version that was published FIRST will always rank higher.

HOWEVER, the article should be published and credited to the SAME AUTHOR.

If there is a different author, this is the type of duplicate content that is frowned upon.

Sharing your article on other websites is known as article syndication.

However, you should ALWAYS publish on your own website first, allow the article to be indexed, before sharing that content elsewhere.

This way the published date of the article will always show as being the first.

This is why many people publish articles on their own website, and then publish the same article on Medium(dot)com.

Or sometimes, you will publish the same article on a news site, etc.

If you are worried about it, you can rewrite a summary of the first 500 words, and then place a link at the end stating "to read the article in full please visit XXXXX".

It also really does depend on who the other website is that wants you to publish your existing articles.

If it is a low-quality, spammy site, I would avoid it.

If it is a well-known, or even authority site in your niche, then go for it.

Have you heard of the website in question before?

That could give you an idea whether to share your content or not.

Partha

Thank you for the awesome clarification, you just solved a very important dilemma I had for a very long time.

And to be specific in regards to a news site.

No worries.

Yep, I think people hear the words "duplicate content" and panic immediately.

Article syndication has been around for years, even in offline print.

The problem is that it can be open to abuse.

That's why the issue of publish date and "same author" matters so much.

I guarantee if you go to medium(dot)com, find an article, select and copy the first paragraph, paste it into Google, and 9 times out of 10 you'll find other places it has been published too.

I'm glad, you can "linkie" to this at a later date!!! LOL.

Partha

Hi Partha,

I know, it has been a while. I have been busy with my new job and also studying, but hopefully I will have more time for my website soon.

Thank you so much for the detailed explanation. The website is a well-known website where counsellors and psychotherapists are listed, so I think it is a great idea to share my articles there.

I had a few already but deleted them as I panicked, so now I ll have to re-publish them there, one by one.

Linking back to my website is a great idea as well, I could get more traffic this way.

Kind regards,
Ioana

Thanks again, it is now "Linkie Doll & Partners" LOL

Even better.

There was a Google algorithm update circa 2018, which has been dubbed the "medic" update.

Basically, any websites that created content known as YMYL (Your Money or Your Life), this is medical-related content that could have an impact on someone's physical or mental wellbeing were scrutinized heavily.

Basically, Google would rather rank an article produced by Mr. PhD that little old Mary from New York with no medical experience.

So, on your own website you should list your qualifications in your About Me page.

Plus, if your content is now also being published on a well-known health website AND linking back to your website, you may now start to be recognised as an EXPERT in your niche.

You may even find that within a few weeks/months that many of your articles get a boost in rankings.

You have satisfied one of the main criteria in Google's eyes for a "medically-related" site.

You are an expert and an authority site is linking back to your website.

I'm glad all is good with you.

At least you're allowed out with your new job. LOL.

Still stuck indoors here... can't wait for Lockdown to end.

Partha

Hi PArtha,

Thank you for your answer. I have added my qualifications on my About page as soon as I got accredited and it links back to the Counsellors website. I do hope this will give my articles more credibility and I will rank higher on Google.

And i am not really going out much, just working from home atm, hopefully things will start reopening from April.

Have a nice day , many thanks for your answers.

Kind regards,
Ioana

You could just share the links to your articles with them.

Hi, you need a copy of an article as multiples would be considered as duplicate content which google frown upon. You may share a link back to your profile.

And provided the other resource is credible however you'd be the judge of that.

I have tried to add some pictures on the site content platform but they all the pictures where previously there dissapeared. Anyone know what has happened?

Hi - the site problems seem resolved now, if you would like to try again.

Thank you, I have just checked, it is working perfectly now :-)

There are technical issues throughout the platform at the moment

Thank you Chrystopher.
