The Follow
As of today, I officially hit a little over 2,000 people who are following me! When I look at that number, it seems staggering. I am, in turn, following so many more. But what does that mean?
To me, it means a whole lot of people I can possibly connect and network with on this journey. It is an entire community to get their expertise in a field that is not my expertise. It is perhaps a way to help someone feel better and more comfortable as we go through our newness together. Some of us, like myself, have never been on this kind of journey and we feel lost sometimes....and that is okay! That's what makes this community so great because we can find answers. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said:
I ask myself that question. Sometimes I'm trying to give advice to others when they can't find the answer and I have said "The answer is here. We just have to find it. Don't give up." Sometimes that may be the only thing someone needs on the other end of the chat or private message - just to know someone is trying to help them as much as possible.
I am all about helping and there are times I know I help just by letting people vent their frustrations - without accusing or passing judgement. I can tell they are frustrated and I start searching using the search bar above. Let me just say that search bar above is truly my WA BFF! I have used it more times than I can count. I have given people links from there many, many times. Why? Because there are a whole lot of others that have been on this WA road much longer than I have and I am willing to follow in their foot steps to get to where we all want to be - AT THE TOP!
Another thing about the follow is that it's so nice to be in Live Chat and people get in there and recognize who I am and say "Hello my friend. I haven't seen you in a while. How have you been? " When I see that, I know it's more than just a rhetorical question. Sometimes my answer is "I'm doing great, but I have a question." Sometimes my answer is "All is going well. I feel good because I added more content, or I totally revamped my site, etc. " There is a connection there because of the follow and rapport.
Some people have sent me messages and said they are following me because I am so helpful and it's funny because some of those people I never helped personally - ever. But they are watching and they see how I respond to others. It goes back to what I have taught my students - people are always watching...and they are! But that gives me a great feeling.
In closing I say, carry on community. Continue to follow, connect, network and help others. You are doing a great job. See you at the top!

Thanks Yvette for the nice post. I am a newbie as well. I am about 3 weeks in now. I can certainly relate to the top bar being my BFF. I couldn't have said it better. I am very grateful for the wonderful community here at WA.

Look at the number of your posts in WA with the most likes Yvette. Then replicate the content magic into your site posts. A great testing example!

One of the biggest benefits of WA is the sandbox environment. Even the ranking conundrum mirrors the external world!

You are so right. Like I was taught in the WA lessons. People are visual and that not only includes websites but also includes your actions in every day life. I'm glad you are teaching your students that for that leads to good morals and a good life. Great post. Thanks for the insight.
