Stop Beating Yourself Up!

So many times as we go through life, we beat ourselves up about everything - what we do, how we look, the house we live in, the car we drive...and yes, the website we have created. The list goes on and on. It seems it is a natural human thing to do - to complain about something.

Goodness knows through the years, I've done it to myself more times than I care to think about. In fact, it used to actually be my mantra - "you can't possibly beat me up more than I have beat myself up". Certainly through the years, as I have gotten more mature (clears throat), I have learned to stop beating myself up over the little things as much as I used to. However, this past weekend is a great example of why I decided to share this post with you today about this topic.

MY OWN LEARNING EXPERIENCE
My husband and I were going out one evening and, as usual, I was multi-tasking to get things done around the house before leaving. I ended up rushing so much at the end, I felt like the shoes I decided to wear were just not up to par for the event. I specifically remember telling my husband I was not happy with my choice and I wasn't feeling comfortable about the way I looked. In his usual manner, he complimented me and off we went to the event.

This event ended up being held at a large outside amphitheater and afterwards, there were a lot of people milling around. It was a bit late, but we decided to grab a small bite to eat. As I was standing in line, a young lady who was a complete stranger came up to me and complimented me - on my shoes! She went on to say how much she really liked them and how nice they looked with my outfit, etc. I was so surprised, I stopped, looked at her and proceeded to give her a hug (yes, I'm a hugger). She looked nice as well and I sincerely returned the compliment.

Another lady across the room was observing this interaction and as I passed by her, she said "I just love seeing things like that. That is awesome. By the way, those are really cute shoes." Oh my goodness...I was just so stunned!

So, you see, the very thing I didn't feel good about earlier was the very thing I was receiving compliments about from these complete and total strangers.

MY OBSERVATION
I read WA blog posts all the time where people are doing the same thing - beating themselves up over decisions they've made - mostly concerning their sites. The next time you decide to start beating yourself up, stop and ask yourself a series of questions:

> Is it really worth beating yourself up about in the end?

> If you've really made a bad decision about something - can it be fixed?

> Can someone here in WA help you get through the situation? If so, who?

> What can you do to turn the situation around?

CONCLUSION
I am here to tell you to STOP! Stop beating yourself up over everything. It's not worth the headache and grief you cause yourself in the long run.

Have a productive week and upcoming weekend. And remember - YOU GOT THIS!!

Cool story and you're right. Thanks for the reminder...it really doesn't serve any good purpose to beat ourselves up.

Yes, you got it! Thanks for stopping by and your comments.

Yes. Stop being your own worst critic!

You got it!!

just add a comment :) one life lesson for a young person like me to learn :) I didn't enter the situation like you, but the first part about beating the self up...I think I still have that... I don't know how to fix it...maybe by the time, I stay with our WA, I might find the way later.

Thank you for sharing.

Hmm...maybe I didn't hit the dead end yet, so I can't go through the breaking point. Thank you in advance. Again :) I pm you once before so when I need help, I will :) just thank you in advance.

Needed to hear this! I'm trying to get out of a funk and turn my thinking around. I take for granted the things i'm good at and try to remind myself that I don't have to be perfect all the time and other people would be totally grateful for what I have, and therefore I need to be more grateful as well.

Cassie, that is an excellent way of putting it. You are absolutely right! Accentuate the positive and alleviate the negative. You got it!

Thanks for sharing your story, Yvette.

It's a very powerful life lesson that we can all benefit from.

Thabo

Thank you, Thabo. It is a life lesson - we just have to take the time to remember it :) Have an awesome week.

You Too!

What a neat story; I bet you felt like a million bucks. It made me smile that you left your home thinking you had made a poor choice in shoes only to receive not one, but two compliments! Love it!

Thanks for sharing:) Hugs!
~Gina

Thank you. Isn't it crazy how we worry and sweat the small stuff and it's just not even worth the time, is it? I did feel like a million bucks - it was so awesome! Thanks for stopping by. Hugs to you!

Thank you. I've'been in so much pain, so haven't done half of the things I would have been done with. I know that beating myself up
is a waste.

Thank you for stopping by to share that. I am so sorry to hear this. If there is something I can do to help you with your site, please let me know. Feel free to send me a private message. I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks, Yvette :)

This is valuable for us newbies... also pros I'd imagine. Everyone no matter how great, meager, wealthy or poor can get too used to beating ourselves up.

Thanks again!

Thank you for the kind words. You're right - we can all get caught up in it. Have a great day.

You too :)
