This is weird.

I get lots of new Followers every day but a few weeks ago my Follower numbers kept dropping. Still getting lots of new Followers but the count kept going

Hi Ian, I noticed my followers has been decreasing. I used to get at least 100 followers a day but now I’m lucky to get 2-3. I always follow everyone who follows me.

Same here. Just today, tho, I got loads of new followers but, on checking, none had any boards or image or profile so I didn't follow them back.

My followers have gone from nearly 14K to just over 10K. I wonder how many are genuine.

Interestingly, although I have a large following compared to FB , Twitter and LinkedIn, Pinterest only accounts for 1.3% of my social media traffic.

Sorry you are losing your followers, Ian. Don't know the cause.

Marion

Looks like Spam/Fake accounts. A common issue with social media networks

Please let me know if you find out... I am curious too.
Michelle

Actually, I thought it was due to the fact that I was not interacting daily since I did not interact for 3 weeks. I was at over 13,000 pretty consistent, and I am about 480. I thought it was because
we had to pay or something.
When you find out, I would b interested in knowing as well.

Have a great day

Your Followers went from 13K to 480???

Yes. I've been experiencing the same thing. Jim

They have been doing SPAM sweeps for empty accounts making connections and then abusing the PM system

I've noticed this, I get so many follow requests and unfortunately Pinterest seems to be full of these. I've adopted the general rule of checking if they have over 2K followers and a profile picture and not a dodgy repeat name like "emma watson" or "scarlett Johanssen". But even with those criteria there are lots of spam Pinterest accounts.
So what do you do about this Andy?
1. How do you find which Pinterest accounts to follow?
2. How do you sort and filter all the Pinterest follow requests you receive on Pinterest?
3. Any tips on how to increase your Pinterest engagement?
Thanks John

That was my first thought but I couldn't believe I was Following so many spam accounts. If so, they must have a massive number

Yes I get so so many of these and have no idea why.....
If you ever learn best practice here...please share. Thank you

The best practice is don't follow back anyone who doesn't serve your greater cause. You can engage your followers without reading what they had for lunch.

I learned with my big Twitter Account that following everyone back is a mistake because now I have to sort hundreds of daily tweets to not miss thing said by people like Kim Garst who I really want to read. I also have found that out of over 9,000 people I followed back around 30% of them are inactive accounts or scammers. It's not unusual for me to go through and delete a hundred accounts in a day.

Follow only those who have the information you need or are a connection you really want to make such as influencers and other bloggers and forum owners in your niche.

OK thanks Andy, then I need to go through Pinterest and unfollow all the "emma watson" and other nail art profiles, I have no idea why these people keep following me. Time to pick out all the weeds...
That's great advice and I really appreciate it!!!!

I'm thinking you can, but I'm also thinking that a while back one of them had rules that you couldn't. So just checking :-)

I'm using AdSense Auto Ads which automatical

I don't think there's a conflict. Amazon and other affiliate programs or adsense never question the presence of both. It should be reminded by adsense that it's a violation.

hey hi Ian -- good question -- consider it from a reader's perspective -- how would it help or hinder their 'like' of your posts? .... then, you'll have your true answer ...

all the best, cheerio .... :)

Hey Ian,

Personally, I wouldn't place both ads in the same post, and you might want to check with Amazon rules on this topic to make sure. You could even sign into your Amazon Associate account and look for the affiliate tech support under contact, and then telephone and speak with someone... or better still, email them so that you have it in writing.

Hope you find this helpful.

I thought I'd take advantage of the Free Feedback offer so I put my site up a couple of days ago but not had one reply.

Anyone else experiencing the same?
Ian

Same thing happened to me.

Hi Ian, I put my site up also, but got nothing. Have no idea what that was all about. I still have it listed for feedback.

Best wishes,
Michael

Hi Michael - see Kyle's reply below.

It seems to be supply and demand - no doubt hundreds of people have asked for Feedback and not so many people want to give it 😱

For what it's worth, I cancelled my request.

Hi Ian, nothing has happened with my request, been a while now. I am just going to leave the request as it is but am not counting on any response. Just one of those things.

Best wishes,
Michael

Hi Michael - yes, as Kyle said - see below - it's just supply and demand. Everyone wants a freebie :-)

I'm leaving mine, No harm done.

None for me.

You are not alone my friend.

I put mine up 6 days ago. No luck, so far.

I recommend that you spend a few minutes and "offer" feedback. If there is a disparity between the # of people requesting, and the number of people getting feedback there can be a delay.

Not to worry, you will get feedback and in the meantime you can contribute back to the platform and earn credits by offering feedback.

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/website-feedback

All explained then, thanks, Kyle.

It's down to supply and demand :-)

If you join other boards, those people will see some of your boards, and they may see something that interests them and you'll get a new follower. Keep joining.

Is that true even if I DON'T Pin ANY Pins to the boards?

Yes. I just go in periodically and select all the folks whose boards have similar subjects to mine.

Great, thanks

Hi Ian, there is always a benefit in joining other boards. Regardless of if they are related to you niche or not. There could be someone on the other end, that would like to know more about your niche, hence producing a connection.

I would go for it, Ian.

Best wishes,

Michael

Hi MIchael - even if I'm not goign to post to those boards?

To give an example, let's say my niche is flat pack furniture and I get invited to a board about making pizza. I'm not going to post any pins there so is there any benefit to joining?

Hi Ian, mutual sharing. I feel this can benefit you regardless if the topics are not related. It is an opportunity to to get someone interested in your niche.

Best of success,

Michael

I get that sharing is good but I couldn't post a flat pack pin to a pizza baord. It doesn't make sense and I'd get kicked out :-)

Yes. You can take a pin which is related to the niche but only does it if you can pin to this board too. Don´t forget what the idea behind this is that you are not only pinning from your website, from others too. That helps everybody. For example, I add 70% of my pins from others.

But remember that not use the same photo a lot. I never have done it more than 2 times, maybe max 3. They are 100% against it which is understandable if you have in mind that it is an image-driven browser.

But you can use the same text many times, just change the image. Doing that and being a partner in many boards (which is something like getting a question in the comments on your site) helps a lot. One of the key things in my opinion.

Sorry if my Q wasn't clear.

I was wondering if there was any benefit in joining a board NOT in my niche that I WAS NOT going to Pin to.

I sort of think not but I'm not a Pinterest expert so I thought I'd ask :-)

Sorry, my mistake.

No, I can´t see it.

Yan,

Pinterest and Instagram as we as YouTube are the best in terms of finding and connecting with like minded people and warm to hot traffic. Way much better than Facebook and LinkedIn.

Why is that?

Facebook and LinkedIn are sort of browsing platforms, except for groups, whereas Pinterest and Instagram as well as YouTube are in the learner's mindset and that is a hot or warm traffic territory.

Blessings

Ok, thank you :-)

It is a question about niche but this is the most important "social media" (it is a powerful browser rather than social media. When I realize that, it was a game-changer for me!) for me.

They have changed their algorithm a lot but in any way a good way. For example, now is more important that your pin get view than you send a lot of pins to raise up.

Just one hint, a strange one. I have realized that people don´t like to see faces there! So if you show it from back or far away, it is much better.

Faces? You mean on pins?

No, I mean face on people.
For example. If you are showing shoes, show the legs or people walking in front you, far away, etc.

Ok, thanks :-)

This may be helpful, Yan. All the best.

Thankjs, Tim

Hey Ian.

On Pinterest profile relevance is more important than anywhere else.

I only follow profiles that contribute to mine in any way... and only if all their boards are relevant to my niche.

When someone follows my profile, I check theirs and if it's 100% relevant to my niche and has activity I follow back.

Remember that Pinterest should not be used as a social network, but as a search engine.

Your website account should be only for your website and 100% relevant.

What you see on your home feed and what Pinterest shows to others from your profile depends of how relevant and optimized it is.

Hi Fran - howzit going? :-)

I have a very specific and targeted profile. All my Pinsa re 100% from the site (and therefor erelevant),

I have created ancilliary boards where I repost other people's pins.

TBH I don't have time to check out all new Followers - I must be getting over 100/day.

If I see lots of pins that aren't remotely relevant I unfollow the pinner but that's about it.

I have been following people who follow boards in the same niche as me.

But still doesn't answer the Q :-)

You seem to be doing everything right then.

You following other people only benefits or harms you in which Pins you see in your feed. So quantity has no benefit.

I hope that answers what I missed before.

If you're getting 100 followers per day you're doing great!

Well, with that info maybe I should rephrase it :-)

I don't think Pinterest has as much of a 'follow back' mentality as Twitter but there are apps that let you unfollow people who aren't following you back. I';ve just started using one.

My Followers:Following ratio is about 1:3 which seems par for the course (also at WA).

1) So, I'm wondering if it's still worth Following people in order to get more followers. I'm think not, at least not using my current method.

2) Also, given the lack of a 'follow back' ethos, should I stop folloqing my followers? It just seems rude not to.

I haven't counted but there's a lot :-)

Just counted - 112 in around the last 8-10 hours

Again Ian, in my opinion, and I might take some heat for thist one, Pinterest should not be treated as a social network.

I wouldn't worry about being rude, but what's good for your followers.

It's better for your followers to see relevant content from you, not to have you follow them back.

It isn't important at all to follow back. I don't follow half of my followers, even people from here whom I like just to keep my account as relevant as possible.

I would stop following all of those who are not relevant to your account.

That's really good! (Your follower numbers)

Thanks, Fran - that'll make life a lot easier :-)

My pleasure, my friend.

:-)

My understanding of Pinterest is that the Pins relate to peoples websites so if the pin image is attractive and enticing people will follow you

I would only follow those you perceive as influences and not random. People if that helps

Thanks, Dave
