5 Common MISTAKES Beginner Bloggers Make (Never Make These!)

Blogging is an art. The more you do it, the better the artist you become.

While most people think blogging is easy, this could not be farther from the truth.

If you have no idea what you're doing and you sit down at your computer and start blogging, I can guarantee your blog posts will be historically awful.

...they will be as bad as modern art.

This is the natural order of things. Before you can get good at something, you have to really suck at it first.

Anyone who tells you otherwise is either lying to you or an idiot.

With that being said, lets dive right in. Here are 5 common mistakes beginner bloggers make:

Mistake #Numero Uno: You gotta loosten up. (Your writing is way too stiff...)

Noob (beginner) bloggers make the mistake of writing in a way that sounds like they're formally addressing the queen of freaking England or something.

You need to loosen up, dudes and dude-ettes...

When you start out blogging, your sentences seem awkward, like phrases pulled straight out of the encyclopedia.

It sounds like you're reading the words right off of a telepromter or some instructions manual- and badly.

You sound like a robot... a cold, monotone robot that's never had basic human interaction and is here to take over the human race.

Ok. You get the point...

I know you guys don't talk like that in real life, though! At least... I hope you don't. Otherwise you should just give up on this right now because you're doomed.

Mistake #2: Your writing's way too dull and uninteresting... Spice thing's up!

YAWN. You're boring me. You're boring. Stop being boring. Stop..

Your writing is a snooze fest. It's putting me to sleep.

This goes back to the stiff writing, guys...

Now, not only is your post too stiff, but it fails to say anything interesting or even remotely entertaining ...Those posts are the worst.

Start being creative with your words and sentences. Stop trying to sound so scripted and just let the words come out naturally. You gotta have fun with it.

Mistake #3: You choose the wrong target niche...

This one's a big one. I've personally F'ed up big time with this one, so when I say I've got a lot experience with this one, you better believe it.

A lot of fresh bloggers will pick a blog niche (or topic) that they think can make them a lot of money...WRONG. WRONG. YOUR OPINION IS WRONG.

If you choose a niche (again, topic) just because you think it will make a lot of money, you will burn out trying to blog about it...

You will burn out faster than jar of pig fat soaked in gasoline.

(I don't know why I said that. I don't even know if pig fat burns...)

But rest assured, what I said stands. You will burn out like a match, and you will burn out hard.

Instead of choosing a niche that you think will make you a lot of money, choose a niche you're actually passionate about.

When times get tough, and they will, you want blogging to be something you can fall back onto with relief, not something you dread doing.

Mistake #4: You have no IDEA who your target audience is...

How can you expect to write a blog that gets a lot of visitors if you don't even know who you're targeting. It's not gonna happen.

Before you create a blog, but after you choose a niche, think long and hard about who your target audience is.

If your niche is beauty and cosmetics, are you going to be catering your writing style to that of a 60 year old man's? No.

Likewise, if your niche is Harley Davidson motorcycles, are you gonna be writing posts that would entertain tween girls?

You have to know your audience.

Knowing that will allow you to tailor your presentation, your products, your keywords, your titles, your writing style and even your general website style to the exact audience you know will be using your blog.

Mistake #5: You don't use enough images...

This one's a classic rookie mistake. How often do you see this:

Text text text text text text text text text text Text text text text text text text text text text Text text text text text text text text text text Text text text text text text text text text text Text text text text text text text text text text Text text text text text text text text text text Text text text text text text text text text text Text text text text text text text text text text Text text text text text text text text text text Text text text text text text text text text text Text text text text text text text text text text Text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text.

WHAT. WHAT IS THAT!?!

Use more images... simple as that.

Mistake #6 (BONUS!): You hit "Post" way too fast!

Ok. Guys, this one is a must. When you're done writing a post, DON'T HIT POST.

You have to actually review and edit everything you've just written before you post it.

No matter how good of job you think you've done, you always want to review and edit.

I guarantee there are some major flops in that post.

Nothing spells amateur like a post that clearly hasn't been edited or even looked at before the blogger hit 'Post.' ...just don't do it.

Final Thoughts

Now that I've shared with you 5 common mistakes you noobs will make blogging, I'm sure you will ignore me and continue to make basic mistakes.

That's ok, I'm a stubborn hard head too. But at least ponder the wisdom I dropped today, if not for any reason other than I spend an entire hour writing all this.

Welcome!

Some great basics set out here. Thanks for putting to paper what we should be doing every time we write.

Ignoring the basics is how we slip off the path of improvement. Thanks for your comment though, Lovely2!

Interesting points, Koda! Understanding our audience has to be priority #1, otherwise we'll never be able to "connect" with them on a level where they will know, like and trust us! Thanks for your insight.

Couldnt agree more, Neil. Connecting with the audience should be the nucleus around which everything else revolves.

thanks Koda its so true I can relate your words are wise and has actually made me stop and think twice about myself

Anything I can do to make people stop for a second and think!
