Where is Your Site Ranking in Google?
We all know the best way to find out where our site is ranking in Google is to do a search. Right?
Be careful, the result can be misleading if you get it wrong
I posted a blog yesterday, opened Google and searched for the broad keyword "Content". This keyword returns "About 7,010,000,000 results (0.63 seconds)".
To think I could rank in this is ridiculous. But check out the search results in the graphic.
Second in the ranking, awesome. But wait there is something wrong here.
I did this search in my Chrome browser where it tracks my useage and location.
Doing another search in an incognito browser using the NCR tag (no country redirect) my post does not rank at all.
It is exciting to see these sort of results but don't be fooled. It is not real.
Go to an incognito window in your browser and use http://google.com/ncr to get the real result.

Hey Kev,
sort of a let down when you find out how it works. Your individual pages may rank better than your site as a whole.
Marty
Yes Marty, I have been disappointed before. Always check individual pages and post because they are ranked on different keywords.
Cheers Kev
Already been tricked by this one, Kev. I'm placed on the fourth page of google at the moment and would like to get higher.
Hi Jeff, it is very exciting to see the high rank but disappointing to not see any results from it.
Best know the facts, not the fairy tale.
You are doing well to make the fourth page, keep going and you will be on page 1
Cheers Kev
Yea if you are logged into your google plus account. If will show you at the top. This happened to me and I was like no way cause the traffic wasn't matching my placement on googles front page.
I checked it out on my girlfriend's phone and my post didn't show up till like page 5. Somewhere in the middle. So yup be sure to log out and then check. At least that's how I do it.
