Do you have a mission statement?
You may ask why I need a mission statement!
Internet businesses are like any other business and you need to treat it that way. This is not a hobby or a fun past time. If you want to be successful you need to plan your business, prepare a budget, marketing plan and yes a mission statement.
You mission statement is the values you want to instil into your business' culture, to present and future employees and partners. It is what your business is about, what you offer to clients and customers.
A mission statement needs to cover certain areas, I have based mine on the following:
- Integrity
- Passion
- Respect
- Forward Thinking
- Teamwork
You can use whatever suits you and your business but I think you will find what I have chosen here is generally what you should concentrate on.
Here is my mission statement:
- To add value to the lives of people I meet in all walks of life!
- Use my passion for my business and life to inspire and motivate everyone I meet.
- Respect myself and my opinions while respecting others, their opinions and decisions regardless of whether I agree with them.
- Conduct myself in personal and business with integrity, always respect the truth and right way of doing things
- Be a visionary and communicate my forward thinking to everyone in my life.
- As well as being a leader I am also a team member and will be part of the team. I will recognize team members for the efforts and reward accordingly. Offer opportunity and assist team members to improve themselves.
In these values you will see I have taken then beyond the business, it is important you, as the leader, live these values in all areas of your life.
As a leader you need to promote these values, encourage your team to adopt them and live by them when working in the business.

So true Kev, it can be one of the things we over look in the hustle and bustle. It can give us a real focus on our lives and businesses moving forward.

Business plans are mentioned on a regular basis here in the community, you are so right they do take things to another level. From days gone by they were something that you did prior going to the bank and then filed in the top draw never to see the light of day. Working online we need plan that reflects the changing nature of the industry that we are involved in and one that is very much outcome orientated. A work in progress for me at the moment.
Yes, but I believe a business plan is a living document, as circumstances change we need to adjust our plan to suit. Thanks for your comments. Cheers Kev
